Eli Roth is Despicable

From W*E*N*N TV/Movie News:
Horror filmmaker Eli Roth fantasizes about torturing Kate Hudson on the big screen. The Hostel director has tortured Bijou Phillips and Jordan Ladd in his movies, but would love to see romantic comedy queen Hudson in a gritty horror role. He tells America's Details magazine, "I'd love to torture her. But then again, sitting through one of her romantic comedies is its own form of torture. If I had to choose between watching Raising Helen or vomiting because of something I'd seen on the screen in Hostel: Part II, I'd pick the vomit every time."
This guy needs to be locked up on a far-away island with the key thrown away. There is something seriously wrong with him.
I read an article recently where he spoke about how proud he felt when he made the editors of Hostel II vomit due to the level of content of the movie.
How movie companies continue to pay this man to make these movies is beyond me. As a film major I find it a direct insult that this man is allowed to have a career. I consider film to be art...and the movies this man makes are a complete waste of film. It is not art. It is the glorification of human mutilation.
Anyone who gets amusement out of watching/writing/making movies like that need serious serious help.
That's my rant for the day.

I am a huge fan of Roth. I love his films and I definitely do not need help.
I actually would love to see Hudson do a horror film as well. I think she'd be a kick ass herione.

Posted: 6/4/07 at 4:16pmI agree. I don't know if the man is cracked or not. I just know that, to me, the first Hostel had no redeeming qualities. I really like gorey movies because I think they're fun. But Hostel was too much. It was disgusting and over-the-top. I will not be seeing anything of his again.

Oh brother. I was pretty much with you until the pretentious: "As a film major I find it a direct insult that this man is allowed to have a career."
Maybe someday, as a filmmaker (if you're lucky), you'll realize that censorship won't benefit the likes of you at all.

Borstal,
Audutition mind-raped me. It completely changed my life. I remember when it was over I was unable to move.
kiri, kiri, kiri.
BRILLIANT!
And just b/c some of you don't enjoy gore does not mean it's bad. A lot of people question what value musicals have.

Posted: 6/4/07 at 4:25pmi've got nothing against gore for gore's sake or someone being proud of getting their editors to throw up (my guess is it was not due to the gore, but rather the general sh*ttiness of the movie). but i do have something against abysmal films like the ones eli makes. i'd throw up too if i had to sit through trying to edit the schlock he throws together.

Posted: 6/4/07 at 4:32pmOh, sh1t! Roth did Cabin Fever? I actually liked that one. I thought it had a really great sense of humor. But Hostel, as my friend Chris says, was torture porn. I thought it was an interesting premise, honestly, and I was still pretty hooked about halfway in. But when we got to the Japanese girl and the snipping out of her eye, I felt ill. I felt dirty in a very bad way.

Yeah--his trailer for Grindhouse was pretty much the only brilliant bit of filmmaking I've seen the man do.
While I applaud the fact that Hostel was so absolutely horrifying, it was a homophobic mess of a film. But, again, kudos for giving this hard to freak out guy the heebie jeebies for a WEEK.

A lot of people question what value musicals have.
Musical theatre has been around, technically, since the Greeks and the use of the chorus in their dramas. It is a timeless form of entertainment that evolved and still exists and is treasured today.
Unlike gore. People eventually grew tired of seeing others torn apart in the colliseum and stopped celebrating public killing, because it's not something to be celebrated or enjoyed.

I haven't seen, and will never see, Hostel.
Can someone tell how the film was homophobic?

So not the case. What about the witch trials at Salem. The brutality of the guillotine. So many examples of man's need for violence. It's a dark part of our nature, but it's there and can't be ignored.
Obviously I am against any type of violence. But Roth makes movies. Fiction. It's an aquired taste and not for all, but there is nothing inherently wrong with it. That's the beauty of movies, if you don't enjoy it, you can choose not to pay to see it.

"Can someone tell how the film was homophobic?"
I guess 'cause of the constant use of "fag" and the killer was revealed to be a homosexual (or at least posing as one).
