A Vanity Fair piece on Elizabeth Warren, who is running against Scott Brown to be a Senator from Mass.
While she teaches at Harvard, she is not "from" Harvard, being born and raised in Oklahoma. She is self-made. Her father was a Janitor and her mother worked for Sears.
Read for yourself.

Posted: 10/11/11 at 4:17pmI am so excited about her candidacy! She was my Contracts professor my first year of law school, and I loved her so much that I signed up for a second year elective with her, and ultimately had her as my advisor for my third year writing requirement. I can tell you from working with her that she is brilliant, tough (but fair), and genuine. She is a great teacher and mentor, and really cares about the issues she talks about - she's devoted her career to studying them, and not in some ivory tower theoretical way, but rather through taking a hard look at actual data. I'm thrilled to be able to vote for her here in Massachusetts!

I am so jealous.
To be able to be taught Contracts and Bankruptcy from someone like her is a gift.

Agreed! And frankly, I would have listened to her read the phone book; she was that engaging. Not that she would allow you to just sit and listen - she was hardcore into the Socratic method, which is difficult to do well. The only other professor I had who was as good at it as Elizabeth Warren was . . . Elena Kagan!

My contracts professor was a gift like that - engaging, amazing and very much harking back to "The Paper Chase."
My bankruptcy professor was Joe Lieberman, but more boring.
Many of my law professors were amazing, but not quite the level of Warren or Kagan! Though Brennan did speak at graduaton - and a friend was suppose to clerk for Kennedy (until he got his appointment) - that is the closest I get.
Harvard was not on my radar as a possibility - I envy those who get to be taught by such minds.

I would vote for her for anything, but the place she could serve us best is the SCOTUS, but she'll never get there. She has the rare gift to be able to explain complicated matters in simple terms without being condescending. If she can't win a senate seat in Massachusetts, there is something seriously wrong.

This is an ad being run by the GOP against her. Quite frankly, I think it's a great ad FOR her, especially considering what's going on around the country (world) right now.

I live this woman. Elizabeth Warren - in her own words.
Quite a counterpoint to how the GOP portrays her.

Elizabeth Warren Heckled By Tea Party Supporter
BROCKTON, Mass. -- Moments into a speech before volunteers here Wednesday evening, Elizabeth Warren was interrupted by a Tea Party supporter who hurled a gender-based epithet at the Senate candidate. The man, who said he'd been unemployed since February 2010, objected to Warren's expressed affiliation with the frustrations of Occupy Wall Street, and argued that the Tea Party has been protesting Wall Street excess for longer than the nascent global movement.
The crowd tried to shout the man down, but Warren told her supporters to let him speak. "No, no, it's alright. Let me say two things," she said. "I'm very sorry that you've been out of work. I'm also very sorry that the recent jobs bill that would've brought 22,000 jobs to Massachusetts did not pass in the Senate."
