"I'm not crucifying her. I've said from the get go that I feel bad for her, but I don't think she's an idiot, either. She had to know that some people might think it's a cynical publicity ploy."
as opposed to the "rescue" worker that called TMZ to make sure her "heroics" were captured on videotape?

""Fink said Moms and Mutts has a rule that families with children under 14 are not allowed to adopt small dogs.""
see? batsh*t crazy..just like the "hoarders" that start out with good intentions but end up with 400 cats because they make it impossible for people to adopt them with all of their ridiculous rules.
A perfect example

I don't see why that's batsh*t crazy, but whatever.
Hmmm. That's weird. I don't know what happened to the picture. I blame those crazy dog people!

so thats another rule that Ellen must've agreed to & disregarded.
if Ellen thought the rules were "batsh*t crazy", then she should not have signed a contract with them.

"Was Moms and Mutts the one what did you wrong?"
nope..none of them have "done me wrong" but I see and hear the stories every day. As I said before, I have always adopted my animals from the local shelters or have saved abandoned cats or kittens left to fend for themselves. The one "rescue" organization I did go to about 16 years ago has been well established here for decades, and their requirements were no more than the local animal shelters.

Posted: 10/16/07 at 10:49pmI doubt they would have brought it up to an adult that they don't "adopt" small dogs to families with kids under 14. They know full well she has no children, so it was a moot point.

The lady who fostered our dog cried when she had to let her go. She told my roommate that if there was ever any problem, she'd be happy to take her back.
Animal rescues are doing a really good thing, despite the rantings today that have said otherwise.

"Fink said Moms and Mutts has a rule that families with children under 14 are not allowed to adopt small dogs."
Oh for god's sake. I understand when they say "No small children" but 14 seems excessive; I've never seen a rescue or adoption agency that had an age limit that high. They could have their own CHILDREN at 14! (Not that anyone should, but come on!) They're more than old enough to know better than to pull a dog's tale. They're old enough to drive or marry in some states, but nope, clearly too immature to have a dog in the house.
And I love how they claim Ellen is bullying them when they're the ones that snatched a puppy from 2 kids and caused Ellen to break down crying as a result. Their response makes it seem like they are going out of their way to shut down Ellen just for the sake of "sticking it to the rich man" for publicity sake instead of actually caring about the dog. How many adoption requests do you think they'll get tomorrow?
Wanting life but never knowing how

Posted: 10/16/07 at 10:52pmthere are some that are good...but a vast majority of them are just like Mutts & Moms..they string you along..invade your life and privacy, allow you to get attached to an animal you want to adopt, then pull the rug out from under you when you don't meet their skewed standards.

Except it's not. Since she gave it to family with young children after all. I don't have children and I know that rescues have varying rules about children.
And why, pray tell, did they know full well she has no children, except the way they would find out for any other applicant - through the screening process? Or are you suggesting that they knew it because Ellen was a tv personality? Maybe the rules were already bent. I wonder if Smoking Gun will get their hands on the chain of command. Wouldn't that be irony if she broke the rules getting the dog and then broke the rules again getting rid of it? I'm kidding, of course, but I really think it's sad that people in this thread won't realize that you can feel bad for Ellen without vilifying anyone here.

what an idiotic statement.
do you think they customize the application forms for each potential adoptee?

Posted: 10/16/07 at 10:58pmLet's be realistic though. Specific breed rescue agencies are the neighborhood associations of dog adoption. Lots of rules, lots of buttinskyism. But you know, like neighborhood associations, you have to play with them if you want to put up a sign or whatever.

I'd really like to see what a lawyer has to say about the validity of their contracts.
I'm guessing none..since legally animals are considered nothing more than property, and once a person is in possession of said property, it belongs to them to do with what they wish, short of animal abuse or neglect.

Absolutely. But that's the deal. No one makes people go to a rescue. Most people I know who go through rescues are sort of the "well, I really want a specific kind of dog, but I'd feel too guilty going to a breeder" kind of person. That doesn't make them bad people, but there are already easier ways to get a pet.

"i just heard from my sister & she said ALL the rescues are PISSED...& they are all going to make the adoption process EVEN MORE RIGOROUS so that no one can claim that they didnt understand the rules."
and they are the ones who will lose. all anyone has to do is take them to court over their "contracts" and they are done.
Meanwhile, they will amass more and more dogs, that they won't be able to care for, since they decided to get more pissy about it, and will end up being shut down by local animal control authorities.
Brilliant.
