I went last night with my family, and I wanted to share.

Elton puts on one HELL of a show. The concert was three and a half hours long, and he did nothing but sing. I really don't understand how he could sing for three and a half hours straight, but that is *quite* impressive. I'm always afraid that people won't sound as good live as they do recorded, but he was in very, very fine voice. He's just as energetic as I think I would've imagined him to be, and he's a brilliant musician. I got the impression that he's pretty down-to-earth, as well, just from a lot of the things he said about his music and all. When he came out for his first encore, before he sang, he spent about five minutes signing autographs for people in the front few rows. I was kind of surprised to see that, but it was really nice of him.

He sang some stuff from the new album, which was a bit less-than exciting, only because it was new music, and with the sound in a place like that, it was very hard to hear the lyrics clearly. Then he did some old Captain Fantastic stuff, and moved at the end into a series of the best-known songs. That was when the show really became great, to me at least.

He did a beautiful, touching tribute to John Lennon, too. He said that one of his fondest memories of performing at Madison Square Garden is of the night John Lennon came up on stage, and that next month, it will be the 25th anniversary of Lennon's death. He sang a song and dedicated it to John's memory. On the projection screen behind the stage was the drawn outline of Lennon's glasses (like the show logo) and on the video screens to the side, there was a really beautiful video montage playing.

Many, many times he made comments about how wonderful a place New York was to perform, and said that of all the places, this was THE place. It made me really proud to be a New Yorker last night. Elton John at the Garden

whee. Okay. I know there were some people who asked me to post about this, so if you read, gracias!

Thanks, Emcee!

I've seen him several times in various places, the most recent at Radio City with the orchestra and choir last year.
He always puts on a helluva show.

He did jump up on the piano bench, and I cracked up, picturing Marcy.

I saw Elton 4 years ago in New Hampshire (front row, but I had NO idea he would sign stuff like that, so alas, I missed out on that...no camera either! UGH!). He does put on a hell of a show. I wasn't particularly impressed with Peachtree Road, and I'd heard he did quite a bit from it this tour, so I passed on tix...But it's great to hear he did a bunch of old stuff too! Glad you had fun, em!!

But when did New Hampshire become--Such a backward wasteland of seatbelt hating crazies?...I mean, only 40 people actually live there. The others are just visitors who come for the tax-free liquor and three inches of novelty coastline. John Hodgeman on The Daily Show (1-30-07)

Elton in concert is splendiferous. Love. Him.

Em, when people were seating themselves, was music being piped through the Garden? When I saw him this past October, I was sitting there watching the people (fun!), not really registering the tunes and all of a sudden my head popped up, ears perked - instrumental Written In The Stars. re: Elton John at the Garden

I hung out with Cheyenne Jackson in his dressing room waayyyyyy before he tickled D2.

There was, but sadly nothing I recognized! I was hoping he'd do Can You Feel the Love Tonight? or something from AIDA, but I figured the latter especially was a long shot.
