I'm sure that their IQ is much, much higher than Obama's approval ratings at the moment.

Further, there are great intellectuals who have documented the failures of Jimmy Carter. He is tragic figure and abysmal former President.

It's one thing for a coterie of liberals at a late-night Washington soiree to say that George W. Bush was the worst president in their lifetimes.

It's another thing when the same is said by the nation's 238 leading presidential scholars, who have been polled annually for the last 28 years.

President Bush ranked worst among modern presidents -- and the fifth worst in history, according to the poll by the Siena Research Institute. Ranking first? President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who led the country from 1933 until his death in 1945.

I have to say I feel just a little sorry for the old bat. She doesn't have the showbizzy charm of Reagan and definitely doesn't have the competent handlers that he did. She's lost any sort of credit that she ever might have had. They ought to have known better than to let her try a debate, and they should have yanked her before she embarrassed herself further during the press meeting.

Regardless of that snobbery, Bush defeated liberal icons Gore and Kerry, while Reagan trounced Carter. And Obama might get beaten by Palin.

That's probably true with at least a portion of the world outside Arizona, but within its boundaries, I won't be surprised if she hangs on and still wins. Handily.

That she might hang on and win is possible, but that kind of performance has to make a very negative impression. She was utterly lost, and handled it very badly. That has to give even the most rabid supporter pause.

I now understand what Joe meant about FDR, but it was worded so it could be thought that he was the top worst president, which didn't make sense. Carter, I think was an excellent but ineffective president. If we had listened to him back when, we would be well on our way to being less dependent on oil.

ghost - I thought the same thing, so went and found a summary of the report. Interesting reading.

As to Arizona, I can't help but mention Sherriff Joe, who wins election after election - by a landslide, usually. The people there are . . . well, different. I spent a total of 8 years living there - over 3 different periods, and all over the state - and I never could completely wrap my head around it all.

A fun spot is Mesa, in the Phoenex metro area, which is not only full of the older demographic that colors so much there, but also has a huge Mormon population. I didn't spend a lot of time there.

One thing I'll never forgive Carter for was bringing fundamentalist Christianity and speaking in tongues to the mainstream. I'm sure it went over real darn good with the Church of God's Anderson Bible Training School's zealous student body, but once that camel got its nose under the cultural tent, that thing has never left.

Carter was not a great president- but certainly not the worst. And of course, Carter's downfall was his handling of the Iranian hostage situation; he said publicly he would not negotiate with terrorists or pay any sort of ransom for their return. Candidate Ronald Reagan agreed publicly but privately negotiated a huge payoff to the radical Iranian terrorists if elected. And of course, that strategy paid off for the Gipper.

And I have a fried who covers Arizona politics- he says that Brewer's stumbles HAVE had an impact. Many voters are stunned and bewildered by Brewer's collapse, but her base has rallied around her, more enthusiastic than ever.

Carter was and is the worst President of the last sixty years. Obama is working at it, but Carter is still the champ!

She could very well win. I was living in Arizona when the whole Ev Meacham thing blew up in a slow trainwreck. He still had staunch supporters even then.

Its really up to her opponent to take advantage of this situation and make it work.

Well, She did admit she was wrong/lied. Something I doubt she would have done had her opponent not asked her that question live during the debate on television. Of course, she has declared NO MORE DEBATES because her opponent exposed her ignorance and dishonesty on live Television and she can not afford for that to happen again. He needs to keep hammering away. I would show clips of her blunders in TV ads and radio ads from now til November.

Wow- Jan Brewer gets less and less appealing as a candidate:

Her Son "Ronald Brewer, 46, is not just mentally ill. He was deemed criminally insane in 1990, following a July 1989 arrest and subsequent indictment for the sexual assault and kidnapping of a Phoenix woman. According to a Phoenix Police Department report dated July 29, 1989, Brewer, then an unemployed 25-year-old, forced his way into a woman's apartment on West Indian School Road and threatened to hurt her "real bad" if she didn't engage in sexual acts, including performing fellatio...."

Now his files have been sealed. And "The docket also strongly suggests that Ronald Brewer has several times over many years attempted to gain permanent release from his confinement at the state hospital in Phoenix, and has successfully won temporary release at various times."
