Exercising

What do you normally do for exercise? I usually run on the treadmill for 45 minutes. I'm starting to go to the gym with a personal trainer, and she has me doing weights, also. What do you do?

re: Exercising

I love being on the crosstrainer (alyptical) i usually do it for like an hour, but i also do basketball (during the season) and sprinting works wonders. also, i do pilates and yoga, it helps, and Slow, long distance running, like during X country season (or whenever ) is probably the best thing i do. so slow, long distance running is what i'd suggest, and it seem like youre probably already doing it.

re: Exercising

I'm going to Los Angeles to stay with my sister for like 8 weeks, and I want to get like really thin while I'm out there. I mean, you can see in my avatar picture, i'm not fat, but I'm not thin. I'm going to a boarding school for the performing arts in the fall, and I'm meeting people I've never met before, so it is a good opportunity to impress people. It is also good for parts, sadly.

re: Exercising

I usually exercise between 4-6 days a week. Either at home or at the gym. I usually do the elliptical, treadmill or take a step or kickboxing class. I try to do pilates every other day or some sort of light weight routine. Very light-like 3-5 pounds.
I'm too intimidated to use the weights or weight machines at the gym. I should probably get a trainer too.
Let me know how that works out for you.

Good luck!

re: Exercising

I HATE exercising, and its starting to show. I like to swim for fun during the summer. and I figure when you go sleding in the winter, walking back up the hill can be considered exercise right?

re: Exercising

I never really believed in exercising, and I was only a jumper in track, so that didn't do much for me. I just sort of eat and was blessed with a somewhat fast metabolism though. (I'm not stick-thin. I'm more..."fit".)

I built up A LOT of muscle in 8th grade though from doing hard-core X-Country, so I probably burn more calories sitting down and typing out this message than some girls at my school do running around the track a few laps.

But when summer start, my metabolism shuts down because I'm so inactive, so I eat maybe...an apple for breakfast (or brunch, depending when I wake up) and then eat a really small thing for dinner. Like a piece of bread, or salad. It's really sad, and makes me look anorexic, and frankly, I've been losing weight because my muscles are turning into gushy fat. I used to weigh 140 near the end of the school year (which was only 2 weeks ago). Now I weigh 135. re: Exercising

re: Exercising

I try and work out everyday. I usually do a half-hour (give or take) of cardio first. Then I work on biceps, triceps, etc. Finally, I do crunches for about twenty minutes.

re: Exercising

I eat very slowly and not very much, just out of nature and not like I'm trying to, and it makes it easier for me to not put on weight. But I'm not the healthiest/health-concious eater either.

I ride my bike or scooter. I played (I have to quit this year so I can do all the shows at school and not die of stress =() soccer whcih got me in good shape. And lastly, I work at a summer cmap, so lots of running around there.

re: Exercising

Aigoo, if you drink protein shakes and then go run or lift weights, you'll gain muscle and not loose so much weight. my brother used to be scrawny, but he did that and is really muscular now. he had the same problem.

haha, that explains it all.

re: Exercising

Well, I'm not really looking to gain muscle. I'm not really planning on doing anything "exercise-y" this summer. It depends if I'm in an upcoming production or not. We'll see.

ConvinceMe2, will you teach me how to surf? :)

re: Exercising

Of course. Now, all you need to do is pay our expenses to/in Hawaii. It's the only place to learn.

re: Exercising

Swim
Dance(freestyle, not the trained type stuff you do in a class)
Crunches, leg lifts, etc
Walk/Jog/Running in the park

I used to be crazy about setting up a strict schedule for myself, but since I read this article in Instinct magazine about doing things at your own pace and mixing it up a bit every now and then, etc etc etc (it's much different when you read stuff in a gay man's magazine rather than the fitness bullsh** magazines) I feel better about doing it when I feel like it. I learned the hard way it's not good being motivated by fear.

I don't WANT to live in what they call "a certain way." In the first place I'd be no good at it and besides that I don't want to be identified with any one class of people. I want to live every whichway, among all kinds---and know them---and understand them---and love them---THAT's what I want! - Philip Barry (Holiday)

re: Exercising

Good cardio, and a light jog. Try to always keep your routine new, and fresh. If you get tired of it, or used to it, you'll lose the drive to exercise. Always remember to warm-up and cool down before and afterwards. But most importantly remember to BREATH!
Without that, the lean muscle tissue won't get supplied enough energy and therefore you'll get tired faster. Keep your heartrate up at all costs, but if you feel dizzy or tired you should probably stop. Think of your body as a fireplace, to keep the fire going you need wood, the wood is your body getting exercise. To burn the fat you need to develop the lean muscle tissue that ,over time, you will gain if you keep fueling the fire (moving and keeping your heart rate up). Remember to have fun, and be consistant. To increase results eat healthier. You don't have to go on a complete diet, just eat smarter. The more you exercise and eat right the smaller your stomach will get. Besides, after your done you feel like you accomplished something and you feel good about yourself for the rest of the day.
