re: FANNY

Sounds cool. My parents used to have the 'LP' of FANNY.
It's a cool name. I'm curious about its origins and why it is not so popular now.

re: FANNY

One of my favorite lines spoken is by Horst Buchholz after his father has told him not to go because Panisse will marry Fanny if he does. It's not so much what he says but how he says it. Buchholz' performance is really full of passion. You see his eyes light up as he sees the sailboats pulling out to sea just longing for something more than what the small French fishing village he lives in has to offer him.
Charles Boyer and Maurice Chevalier are great comic foils at certain points in the film.
Leslie Caron is beguiling as Fanny.
It may sound corny but it is a really heartbreaking movie.

By the way the line is : "Panisse will be married to Fanny and I, I will be married to the sea!"

My dog. Fanny the big slobbering black lab.
She's named after Fanny Mendelssohn; we also have a cat named Clara after Clara Schumann (but ever since she had a stroke and is kind of brain damaged we say we named her after Clara in Piazza).

Now this is a name like Bertha or Mildred that definitely needs to make a comeback.
"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ~ Muhammad Ali

re: FANNY

When the Jones Beach Marine Theater was presenting lavish productions of Broadway musicals, I truly wanted them to do FANNY. I love the score and the setting on Zach's Bay would have lent itself beautifully to the story's French seaport. (Anyone who saw their SOUTH PACIFIC knows how effective the Bay was used in that show! Same thing with AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS) I actually wrote a letter to Guy Lombardo, the producer, suggesting this. He sent me a personal letter thanking me but said that they do family-oriented shows at Jones Beach and there was the whole issue of Fanny's pregnancy that was unsuitable for families. Remember, this was in 1969 or 70.

I can still remember the Jones Beach production of THE SOUND OF MUSIC, and the boat with the searchlight, when the family was hiding from the Nazis.
