I'm probably LESS interested in the movie pool this year than I have been in years.

I'm just hoping for a Lost win on the television side. It's the best popular entertainment out there in any medium right now (yes, I'd even pit it against maost theatrical entertainments)

I just got back from BBM viewing #2. All I have to say is that if Michelle Williams doesn't win the GG, SAG, and the Oscar, it'll be a shame. She's incredible in this film and I certainly hope that she is rewarded accordingly.

The same goes for Mr. Ledger. Such a star turn.

I want Michelle Williams to win best supporting actress, but I won't care is Shirley MacLaine, Rachel Weisz, or Frances McDormand win because I think they are all wonderful actresses.

Scarlett Johansson on the other hand...sucks, in my opinion. I saw Match Point tonight and it reaffirmed the fact that I think she is ridiculously overrated. I don’t think she’s talented in the least...but hey! That’s just ME! :)

I'm starting to suspect they'll feel they can overlook Heath by blanket awarding the film (picture, director, writing, cinematograohy-at the Oscars, anyway, where that category exists), paving the way for wins by Hoffman at the GG, SAG, and eventually, the Oscars. Michelle has a shot, and Jake, for Best Supporting at the Oscars, but I think the tide is turning to Hoffman.

I will be very surprised if they separate Lee from the film. And I don't quite understand the posts that say "becauset they have to give Clooney something..." The foreign press "has to give" Clooney a prize? Sounds like Fox News reporting, not real world decisions. They're no more invested in George Clooney than anyone else.

This is just beginning to stress me out, and I don't know why. I mean Brokeback is doing amazingly well at the box office. When it comes down to things isn't money the only issue that makes a film what it is. But still, I hope to god that Brokeback wins for AT LEAST Director, Best Movie, Best Supporting Actress, Score, Song, and Screenplay. And if Heath Ledger doesn't win Best Actor, I think I may kick my foot right through the damn T.V. screen....

I totally agree with you, Auggie. I have a feeling it'll be Jake and Michelle, but Heath will be overlooked, unless the Academy has a crisis of conscience.

Wow that best actor category is tough!!!! I will be very very sad if Heath doesn't win....not because i think PSH doesn't deserve it...i haven't seen Capote and i'm sure he's beyond amazing and very worthy. Here's my argument... PSH is seriously good in everything and any other year i would be thrilled for him to win...but Heath Ledger...seriously this was the first movie besides 10 things i Hate About You that he impressed me in. He is amazing in the role and his transformation and the layers to his character. He breaks you heart in the movie! I really hope he gets it!! But i won't be too sad if PSH gets it cuz he is a fave actor of mine.

J/w from the best supporting actor category?? Nobody seems to be a clear winner...do you think that means Jake has a shot at oscar gold...or even the SAG awards??? God i hope so!!!!J/w people's thoughts on Jakes chances

Actually, I thought Jonathan Rhys-Meyers was better than Scarlet. She never sells the moment to me. I think she always seems to be disconnected. When Jonathan Rhys-Meyers' character said "you can't act!" my friend and I shared a chuckle!

But, hey! There are people that I like that others don't! I LOVE Sandra Bullock and some people don't understand why.

I don't think Mr. Gyllenhaal will win the Oscar. I think it will end up going to Paul Giamatti for his years of consistently solid work and for being snubbed for Sideways and American Splendor.

You may be right, M.E. Fan. CINDERELLA MAN (along with CRASH) is also one of the few films to send out mailers. Everyone in the academy got a copy. It may help Giamatti and Dillon, even.

I'm just not sure that Giamatti's work is as popular with fellow actors as with film critics. Remember, he was snubbed by actors voting for actors last year.

Let's keep our eyes on SAG awards. That is a fairer barometer for the Oscars, as the membership overlap is just about total (though Benning beat Swank in the SAG for AB, and Swank won her first Oscar that year for BOYS, yes?) The Globes voters are a rarified group of journalists, even if they often do predict ultimate winners (13 out of 15 movies have gone on to when Best Film.)
