Well you're not gonna believe this here story I'm about to tell ya', but my ma decided on, I think it was Mother's Day of 1965, that she wanted to see this here movie which was wrote by two Jewish guys and sung by a Inglish girl in Austria. We also was gonna go out to ?BRUNCH? first. Well my pa done took a long drag of his Pall Mall and said ?HUH? Ta make matters worse, we hadda go all the way downtown to the Music Hall Thee-A-Der. AND pay for parking!!!
And so, my BWW friends, a youngster became a man. It only took 3 simple hours to realize that there was more to this world than who was better? ??Willie Mays or Mickey Mantle??
And so, to answer your Q, it was TSOM, Julie and Mary.

My mom says they were playing Mame in the delivery room when I was born and that is why I love it so much but she is joking.
The first one I bought with my own money was Rocky Horror Picture Show does that count?
My mom had a bunch before I was born so I kind of inherited all the old ones from her so I guess the fist one I was given was Oklahoma.

First Cast Album I ever owned: West Side Story
First Soundtrack I ever owned: West Side Story
I never payed much attention to musicals or musical theater until West Side Story came into my life. It's responsible for my love of musical theater and Natalie Wood.

A Chorus Line is the first cast recording I purchased. But I remember listening to West Side Story over and over at my girlfriend's house. I was too young to have money then, LOL.

I recieved a cassette tape of the OBC of "Phantom of the Opera" Higlights by my Aunt for a birthday. I was probably 11 or 12, and she knew I loved it because I would always listed to it with her, and we would always fast foward to Christine's high pitched scream in the second act when the Phantom takes her. I always loved that!
but the first recording I ever bought myself was "Titanic", the day it came out. It was the first broadway show I ever saw, and I fell in love with it. I had to wait about three months from the time I saw the show until the actual cd came out and it was torture. I brought it over to my friends house who saw it with me, and we listened to it together.

When it comes to cast recordings libraries and my mom are my best friends. The first on I bought was Tick,Tick...Boom along with Legally Blonde (worst choice ever) after saving up my money for 2 months.
"We are just like Romeo & Juliet, we're happy, young, and bubbling with love.I can't wait to read the ending, but I'm sure it turns out real swell.I bet Romeo marries his Juliet and they have a baby and make lots of friends! That's probably the way the play ends"-Reefer Madness

I guess it was the soundtrack to the movie Grease. I was 12 and obsessed with the movie. The first cast recording I bought was the OBC of Annie.
"I don't want the pretty lights to come and get me."-Homecoming 2005
"You can't pray away the gay."-Callie Torres on Grey's Anatomy.

Well, like Marianne, my first introduction to musicals was Grease. I had a whole collection of 45s when I was like three and my very own little record player. My mom says I would belt There Are Worse Things I Could Do over and over.
My introduction to musical theatre came through a crush on a church camp counselor that worked at Opryland in a show called And The Winner Is... It was a show about all awards shows. (Grammys, Oscars, Doves, Tonys) They ended with a huge production of One Day More from Les Mis. I saw her in the show so many times when I was in the 8th grade that I memorized the song. Then I was at a friend's house and saw that they had the cast recording. I asked to listen to it. The mom was a huge fan of theatre and when she saw how much I loved it, she gave it to me. It was just my little secret until I saw a community production of Evita in the 11th grade. I bought everything I could afford. lol

When I was younger, I found a cassette of the Dreamgirls OBC recording in my dad's collection. My favorite color was purple, and I thought the cover was so glamorous with the legs and microphones, so I snatched it and eventually wore it out. I'd say that's proof right there that marketing can make a big difference!
The first cast recording I bought myself was...I honestly don't remember. It might have been Fiddler on the Roof, I think it was the first show I ever auditioned for.

I bought the Godspell Original Cast Recording when I was in 5th grade.
The first cast recording I remember being given was the 1976 revival of Guys & Dolls; the all black production with Motown-like orchestrations. My grandmother gave it to me for Christmas although had she known this she undoubtedly would've said something "colorful."

Phantom of The Opera OLC.
I was six or seven. I saw the music video for "phantom of the opera" on TV and loved it and begged my parents for the CD. Also the first show I ever memorized from start to finish. "Les Mis" was fast on Phantom's heels.
