When I was a kid, it was LITTLE GIRL LOST; and, when I saw POLTERGEIST, I felt it was inspired by that TZ episode. However, I have never seen it again, so I'm not sure how it holds up.

I agree with Time Enough At Last

Time Enough At Last is always the one I mention when asked, followed closely by Eye of the Beholder.

My all-time favorite:

The Invaders -- with a tour de force performance (without dialogue) by Agnes Moorehead.

This is my favorite TV show of all-time, BTW.

I don't know the episode title of this one, but it had Joseph Cotton (I think it was him) and he had been in a car accident and couldn't move, but was still alive. They were about to autopsy him and he cried a tear and he was saved.

Creeped me out for years!!!

My top picks are "Eye of the Beholder," "The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street," and I can't remember the name, but it's the one where a wealthy old man calls his greedy, vulturous family to his New Orleans estate and gives them the masks to wear and remove upon his death, only to discover that the masks have become their faces. Which one is that?

Oh my god...the first time I saw Nothing in the Dark, I called my mom over and was like "Is that Robert Redford??? He used to be so gorgeous!" LOL. Love watching that one just to stare at him.

This is probably the best TV show ever created.

I don't know any of the episode names, and I'm too lazy right now to Google them, but my absolute favorite was the one where the man woke up one day...and everyone on Earth had disappeared except for him.

It's still my favorite daydream. :-P

Suzanne: I never use catalogs. I'd rather go in the store and see all the salespeople groveling and sucking up to you. Julia: Pardon me, I never knew they were so solicitous at the K-Mart.

Great episode...called Time Enough At Last...if that's the one you're referring to.

he didn't wake up and everyone was gone, but he was in the elevator, a bomb went off, and killed everyone except him. and all he wanted to do was read...

Oh...maybe I was thinking of something else.

You know, maybe it was actually "Where Is Everybody?" that I'm remembering...it's been years and years and years, so my memory of it may be somewhat fuzzy.

The Dummy scares me to death. I HATE ventriloquists, and I watched this during a marathon once and had nightmares.

There are a lot of great ones. I love when the mannequin comes to life in the department store. And, of course, the famous Burgess Meredith one where he's surrounded by his beloved books but his glasses are destroyed. The BEST one I've seen, though, is called A Nice Place to Visit. A mobster is killed and in the afterlife has every single whim and desire catered to. Plenty of booze...plenty of hoo-wers (Goodfellas reference, sorry), etc. I don't want to give the ending away if you haven't seen it, but it's really entertaining and clever! Loved "Pip!"

I hate the one with the little kid who keeps getting phone calls from the dead. It was brilliant, but too scary for me. Kept me up at night.

Where Is Everybody is the very first episode where this man is running all over town looking for another person to talk to and there is no one around! He kept finding signs of life, water left running, hot coffee that had just been brewed, etc, but never found another human being. Later we find out that it was all an experiment to see if he could withstand life without human contact...obviously, it was very difficult for him and he started going crazy, so they had to remove him from the experiment and hoard him off to the mental ward.

YES! That is PRECISELY the one. I remember now, because I LOVED the episode until the end when you find out it's all fake and he goes crazy. I got really upset, because ever since I was a little kid, I've always had this really vivid fantasy of exactly that...just walking outside one day and finding everything exactly as it always is...minus the people.

There's another cool "isolation" one called "Stopover in a Quiet Town," where the couple wakes up together in a town with no people, and everything (grass, trees, buildings) are fake.

It turns out they've been transferred to a "giant world" and they are running around a little girl's miniature play set, complete with a running train, and all the cute little fake buildings.

Creeeeeeepy!

And then there's the one with that scary doll... saying, "My name is Talking Tina... and I'm going to KILL YOU." Love it.

My favorite TV series EVER.

Ha, I JUST watched that one today. Love it. Another good one is Nightmare at 20,000 Feet, where the man just released from a mental institution keeps seeing this creepy man on the wing of the plane, and every time he gets someone to look out the window, it's gone.

Yep. Shatner's dang good in it, too.

He did a handful of Twilight Zones.

I like the one where he and his fiancee get stuck in that small-town diner, playing with the fortune-telling gadget that actually predicts the future.

I can't find the Joseph Cotton one that I love...it must be an Alfred Hitchcock instead. I just watched a Twilight Zone marathon on the Sci Fi channel a couple of weekends back, and man, that brought back a lot of memories.

I don't remember what these two are called, but I absolutely love the one that involves the cookbook "To Serve Man" (ugh, chills just thinking about it...), and another one about a camera that takes pictures of events about three minutes into the future.
