My absolute favorite is "The Midnight Sun", sidenote: Joseph Cotten is awesome in Hush...Hush, Sweet Charlotte. The Twilight Zone kicks ass :)

C is for Company --- I love that one too! Are you aware that the older woman (next-door neighbor) in "The Midnight Sun" is Betty Garde... who played Aunt Eller in the original Broadway production of "Oklahoma!"?

The Midnight Sun is a great one. As is The Masks.

It depressed me that I was only able to watch a day's worth of the July 4th marathon....I was going on vacation the next day. At least New Year's will be good.

I've been slowly realizing that the episodes weren't as scary as I once thought. They're all psychological thrillers that make you think. And when you think about it, that's what's scary....

Has anyone seen the most recent update with Forest Whitaker? What a waste.

I refuse to watch the remakes/updates. They've tried that several times before and it doesn't work.

I want my vintage, B&W mini-masterpieces.

I own the DVD box sets for each of the five original seasons. You should check them out. The picture and sound quality is flawless (except for the handful that were shot on video), and they have fun "extras" like audio commentary from many of the stars, interviews, the original commercials, clips from SNL spoofs, Rod Serling promo spots... all kinds of stuff. Well worth the bucks to either buy or rent. You can have your own marathon any time you want!

I don't know the name of it, but it was when a little boy "wished" away people who were mean? People kept disappearing. The adults were trying not to upset the kid. Then in the last scene, he "wished" someone that turned into a jack-in-the-box.

Then there was one I think took place after some kind of war, and he was the last man alive?and had all the books he could want to read. After he sorted out his books to read by month, he then found out his glasses lenses were broken, and he couldn't see to read. I think it starred Burgess Meredith.

Yeah, he wished the people he didn't like away into the cornfield! That one was great!

The other one you're thinking of is Time Enough At Last...a classic episode!

It'sOnlyAPlay---The first one is "It's a Good Life" with Billy Mumy as the kid with the power. That's a great one! Actually, I like all the ones that Billy Mumy did.

The second one is Burgess Meredith in "Time Enough At Last," which was mentioned earlier here. One of the standouts among these classic shows.

I think there was a sequel to “It’s a Good Life” in the most recent Twilight Zone series.

Best12bars, those DVD sets have been on my wish list for some time. It looks like Image is releasing a complete set of all 5 seasons in October...looks to be a little cheaper than buying each set individually.

Yes - there was a sequel and a number of remakes in the most recent update.

"It's Still A Good Life" starred Bill Mumy and Cloris Leachman, reprising their roles, and Lily Mumy (Bill's daughter) as the little girl with the new power.

They also did a remake of "Eye of the Beholder" and "Monsters are Due on Maple Street." Both were awful.

NCGuy---DeepDiscountDVD.com has the "complete definitive" set listed for $199 (a hundred bucks off the retail price).

And if you're a patient buyer, and can wait until their twice-a-year big sale, you'll get an extra 20% off, then.

How about "The 7 th Is Made Up Of Phantoms" or the one about Lincoln's assasination

Ever notice how many have to deal with going back in time?

I'm so glad theres a topic on this, I just finished watching one of my Twilight Zone DVDs and was determined to start this very topic but then i found out it existed already, pretty convienent.

As for favorite episodes, i don't think I've seen one yet thats disappointed me but two that really stand out in my mind are ironically two of the few that don't involve the supernatural:

1) 'Nick of Time'. The first time I saw this it was about 2am and it freaked me out to no end. The simplicity of it is amazing and when I re-watched it a few minutes ago I was struck by the editing and how it made the episode so disturbing....plus the performances are great, the writings great, overall the simplicity is really effective and i looooove it.
2) 'The Silence'. Shocking/tragic ending that I didn't see coming.

great show. I need to watch more of it...right now.

Canadians are not afraid of the dark! Ok...we don't love it, but who does?

I don't recall the title, but it's the episode where a married couple wake up in a house.......they had been out the night before...New Year's Eve....when they walk outside there are no people and everything is a prop..... A fake tree, a fake squirrel, etc.

The only thing that the wife remembers was seeing a shadow as they were driving home. Throughout the episode, the couple hears the laughter of a little girl.

Come to find out that the little girl is a giant alien and her father brought the little people back to her...all the way from earth. The empty city that the couple had been is, was a play village...

very creepy!

Out of all the recurring actors in this series, I've found Burgess Meredith to be the most effective, plus happen to be in episodes with such memorable plots.

nealb, you're describing "Stopover in a Quiet Town," very reminiscent of "Five Characters in Search of an Exit" imo.

Last week I caught an episode of the show and decided to set my dvr to record all episodes. I've been watching a few each night - most of which I'm seeing for the first time - and the shows really hold up.

I've always been a fan of "The Midnight Sun," and I recently watched it again. Tonight were two I hadn't seen, "Five Characters in Search of an Exit" and "Jess-Belle."

I see the dvd set in my future.

Oh, and I also watched "Queen of the Nile," with Ann Blyth and the crazy sexy Lee Phillips.

Perchance to Dream scared the sh*t out of me. I love so many that it's easier to pick my least-favorite: Four O'Clock. The twist is pathetically obvious.

My faves are
To Serve Man
Eye Of The Beholder

and the one wher the gangster (I think) dies and goes to heaven. His every wish is granted and he goes crazy only to discover that he is really in hell.

Also The Invaders

....but the world goes 'round

Most definitely Nightmare at 20,000 feet. You know, the one where the guy sees the gremlin on the wing of the plane? Oh, come on, how do you not like that episode? I also like Five Characters in Search of an Exit. That's the one where the clown, ballerina, bum, etc. are trapped at the bottom of the giant cylinder.

Edit: How could I have forgotten Stopover in a Quiet Town? I LOVE that episode.

Kringas---re: Phillips, I'm glad you think so too! He didn't have much of an acting career after "Peyton Place" but I loved him in the Twilight Zone. I think it was his voice. A little too high-pitched to go with that smoldering, manly "look" he had.

Still VERY talented.

He moved behind the camera later on, and directed nearly all of the "Andy Griffith Show" episodes for the final couple of seasons.
