With AMC showing MY favorite, the 1984 production with George C. Scott as Scrooge, I thought I'd add to the what's your favorite..." line of threads to ask what your favorite version of the Dickens classic is.

Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol comes in a close second to the live action version.

The Classic Alistair Sim, the George C. Scott and the Patrick Stewart one all fill my needs.

Mickey's A Christmas Carol, even though Goofy as Jacob Marley scared me as a child.

Any one that doesn't have Frasier in it.

Without a doubt. I've already watched it twice this season.

re: Favorite version of A Christmas Carol

I first saw it on Christmas Eve in 1970, the year it was released. I was barely eight years old. My father took me to the 8PM showing. Just me and him.

...and I came home to Mom's hot chocolate, presents under the tree, my grandmother visiting, and the best Christmas dreams an eight-year-old could ask for. I've never forgotten it.

And this movie has accompanied me throughout the years, reminding me of the magic of a child's Christmas.

I too love that version. In fact I am watching it right now.

Great story, Best12. I saw Scrooge once, a long time ago, but haven't seen it again since. I'd like to though, as Anton Rodgers, one of my favorite British actors, is in it.

I wasn't aware there were so many until Lifetime started airing a difference version every day.

I hope Dickens's ancestors are getting compensated for the rape and murder by Hollywood.

Seriously folks, we all know that Susan Lucci's version is the one by which all others are judged.

Muppet Christmas Carol FTW.

Absolutely the George C. Scott one. Frank Finlay as Marley used to scare the crap out of me.

He is pretty scary, isn't he ShbrtAlley44. Especially at the end where he puts the scarf under his chin, ties it tight enough to snap his mouth shut and then go tumbling into the night...

Comin Uptown with Gregory Hines as Scrooge. Regretfully, the critics crapped on it & it folded quickly.

I like the Lynn Ahrens and Alan Menken Christmas Carol the best, though not so much the television version. I just listen to the original cast recording to get my fix.

I was about to say I was surprised that no one mentioned the Muppets Christmas Carol, but someone did. I got to say, that is a good one. I think I have seen others but I can;t remember.

You must remember all the same that at the crux of every game is knowing when it's time to leave the table... And it's important to be artful in your exit. No turning back, you must accept the con is done... It was a ball, it was a blast. And it's a shame it couldn't last. But every chapter has to end, you must agree.

There's a special kind of people known as show people. We live in a world full of dreams. Sometimes we're not too certain what's false and what's real. But we're seldom in doubt about what we feel.

For me, there's the George C. Scott version and then everything else. I like my Christmas Carols dark and realistic, and he's as real as they come.

On the complete opposite end of the spectrum (the magical, cartoony side), I love Mickey's Christmas Carol and the Albert Finney Scrooge.
