Also, after viewing some older Short Programs of Top Pairs teams(1988, 1992 and 1994 Olympics) I noticed that there weren't any throws. When did it start becoming routine to include a throw in the Short Program?

Beginning with the 1999 ISU Championship Competitions, a throw jump was added in as part of the short program required elements for senior pairs. That was the same year they allowed men to do a quad in their short program.
Thanks!
My knowlegde on pairs history isn't as much as my knowledge on singles!
Still 1999, that was just the last quad, and they've always done 2 throws in their LP. It just seems like it should of happened sooner.
I can't believe the OOOOO's pairs short is Saturday. Bring.It.On!!!!!!
OMG! Your right!
You know, I'm going to check once and for all if Shen and Zhou are going to be in the Olympics. They are the true Wild Card Entries!
Okay, they are going to be there! But are not China's top team, that goes to the Zhang's! I'm not sure if Tong and Pang are above them.
But the Olympics inspire great performances and they are
well-respected by the judges. So like, Michelle Kwan, you can't count them out at all. They are SO the wild cards and this makes it SO EXCITING!
Yea! I'm so excited for this weekend and all of the days to follow! I am a total TV junkie during Olympic time. :) :) :)
The Sports Illustrated Olympic Preview Edition had some nice Figure Skating Stuff!
I am hoping that Michelle surprises everyone.
Hopefully, Michelle can atleast do a clean Short Program.
Bless you little Johnny Weir.
May you skate to your hearts content and bring us Gold!
xoxoxoxo - love you!

Michelle always skates a clean short, and messes it up a bit in the long. I'm hoping she is not in the lead after the short, but still in contention...so she forces herself to skate an amazing long program.
Good Point. Her being in first place after the SP twice has caused her to skate cautious and try to protect the gold rather than earn it. And earn it is what Tara and Sarah did.
I LOVE Michelle Kwan, but I will SERIOUSLY CRY if Irina Slutskaya is not on that podium......if she doesn't win the whole thing!
I think the podium will probably feature Sasha and Irina. If Michelle is at her best then put her up there. If she's not, then it's a little open!
My hopes for Michelle is that she skates with the exuberance and abandon that she displayed during the 1995 World Championships (4th place). I still remember how the crowd went wild for her after her long program and booed when she wasn't awarded the bronze medal. I also hope she throws in a couple of triple-triple combinations as well.
Ok, love Michelle, but can we please have some Shen & Zhao love here? I love them and the timing of the achilles injury couldn't have been worse. GO S&Z!
i was at 2004 worlds in DC when S&Z won ... the day before, she didn't even practice because of an injury ...the experience of their freeskate was something i'll never forget ... we were all on our feet about a half minute before the end of the program ... perfection!
they have been missed TERRIBLY this season!

I love Shen and Zhao and I hope that they can just skate clean and have the inspired performance they are capable of. I used to hate Totmianina and Marinin because I found them to be robotic and missing the great quality that the great Russian pairs like Gordeeva and Grinkov, Mishentonouk and Dmitriev, and Berezhnaya and Sikharudlize had. However, I really love their Long Program this season and wouldn't mind if they won the gold medal with that.
VGT, i totally agree with you about T&M ... they always came across as absolutely passionless ... i still don't think the passion comes through in their skating like it should/could, but they've improved ... and the fact that we've seen them in so many interviews over the past year (on account of the infamous fall) enhances our perceived concept of their personas.
Michelle is going to be on the Today Show during the 7:30am half hour.

Shouldn't she be practicing?
NPR reported that we'd better watch out for the Russians this time. The report said that since the last Olympics big money has once again been pumped into the training program a la the Soviet era.
Doesn't it suck to have to type out all those names VIETgrlTerifa?

Um...who says she isn't practicing? Every big name Olympian will be doing tons of interviews in-between the practices and competition.

Not really, because I love typing all of them out. I'm a huge figure skating nut, lol.

That doesn't really change anything because the Russians have always been a powerhouse in figure skating, and deservedly so.
