Guess the American songwriters were lousy too, huh?
I loved Javier's speech (did Regis call him Xavier?) and kinda teared up a bit.
That was one of the most ignorant things I have seen, Regis calling Javier Xavier. Javier Bardem kept laughing and I was just yelling at the TV.
Why did they let him out of Shady Pines? If you don't know the names of the players, stay out of the press box.
Pros:
- Jonah Hill and Seth Rogan's debate over who was more Halle Berry-like.
- "Falling Slowly" winning!
- Marketa Irglova being brought back on
- Marion Cotillard being adorable when getting her award
- Tilda Swinton winning, and then her speech teasing Clooney and comparing Oscar to her agent
- Daniel Day-Lewis kneeling to be knighted by Helen Mirren
- The writers bringing good material to Jon Stewart's mouth
- "Atonement" winning for Best Score
- Jennifer Garner's dress (her body looked slammin')
Cons:
- Montages
- "No Country for Old Men" winning Best Picture.
- Daniel Day-Lewis' earrings. (I think he borrowed them from my grandmother)
- The joke about The Baby Award. Lame.
- Bad hair. Cameron Diaz, John Travolta, and Jennifer Garner, especially.
- Jessica Alba and Cameron Diaz even being there. They kill movies.
I still can't believe that Bourne Ultimatun won the Best Editing award. When I left the cinema I was dizzy from the near seizure-inducing frequency of the cuts and the handheld camera footage.
They sometimes confuse Best Editing with MOST Editing---same with the Costumes...
"This year made me realize how out of touch the Oscars are.
Perhaps they'd consider honoring films people have seen. I mean, I know Norbit got a nomination, but still.
Did the average movie fan in Podunk, Nowheresville see a movie like Michael Clayton?"
It's an award for excellence. Not box office.

"It's an award for excellence. Not box office."
LOL. Now who's being naive, Kay?
Well, okay, yes, sometimes box office factors into the equation.
But just because a film like NATIONAL TREASURE 2 sits at the top of the box office for a few weeks doesn't mean it should be considered for Oscars.
PERSEPOLIS was robbed.
I don't know much about women's fashion but Jennifer Hudson completely redeemed herself. That was a smart choice she sported versus the Battlestar Galatica number last year.
Cameron Diaz is a hottie again after failing to make the cut for a number of years.
Oh, and is Oscar so far up Disney's ass that they have to have a special montage to plug BEE MOVIE fer Chrissakes??
BB: I'm pretty sure that BEE MOVIE is Dreamworks Animation.
Ugh. Whichever.
"I don't know much about women's fashion but Jennifer Hudson completely redeemed herself. That was a smart choice she sported versus the Battlestar Galatica number last year"
Oh my. I couldn't believe she wore that dress. She couldn't have selected a more unflattering dress for her body than that one.
I love how we all liked different things! I didn't think the Halle Berry thing was funny at all. and they just couldn't leave it alone. It stretched out forever.
I love how BOURNE ULTIMATUM won more awards than ATONEMENT, JUNO, and MICHAEL CLAYTON combined.
Anyone else not like NO COUNTRY?
I saw NO COUNTRY twice just to make sure I wasn't wrong about not loving it the first time, but it still didn't draw me in. I can see how technically it is a very well-made film with good acting, but it didn't stick with me like Atonement or There Will Be Blood.
And I know it was Daniel Day Lewis's year, but when will Johnny Depp get his Oscar?
I didn't go for the Halle Berry joke fest either. If I were young new comedy stars, I would boycott the Oscars for not recognizing young new comedy stars.
Re: the Halle Berry jokes, I kept wondering how Judi Dench would feel.
Re: The Halle Berry jokes.
One of the worst bits of the evening, by far. Probably the worst.
How many Americans won last night?
"And I know it was Daniel Day Lewis's year, but when will Johnny Depp get his Oscar?"
Soon. I hope.
I don't know about other categories, but no acting awards went to Americans.
I'm still quite frankly stunned that Marion was able to pull out the win. I knew it'd be a close race, but really felt that in the end Julie would win. I couldn't be happier. When watching "Away From Her," I found myself for days saying, "Julie Christie did a great job playing an Alzheimer's patient." I never once forgot that I was watching Julie Christie. Now in "La Vie En Rose," on the other hand, I had to keep reminding myself that I wasn't watching Edith Piaf herself. That swung my vote from the very deserving Julie Christie to the luminous Marion Cotillard.

You know I just realised the off-beat quirky independant film about Teen Pregnacy was the only film most people in the viewer public actually saw this year.
well the coen's are american and won 3 awards. Striperella is american. A handful of the tech awards went to americans. Brad Bird (for ratbastardtoie) is american.
