OK ... LORD OF THE RINGS was good. But hell, it was not the best film of the year ... I mean, not even BEST MOTION PICTURE material.

By far the worst most boring Oscars I've ever seen. If it doesn't get any better, I'd hardly care if I see another Oscar telecast.

surely this cannot be true, can it?:

Oscar History: First Guy to Thank Boyfriend. Adam Elliot, the director winner of best animated short film "Harvie Krumpet" made Oscar history by thanking his boyfriend in his acceptance speech.

"Actually, it just popped into my head," he said backstage. "It was not something I planned to do, it was just, I've only been going out with him two months."

They need to cut the opening musical number. It hasn't worked in years.

Billy Crystal was not funny. Are there any funny writers left in the world??

I actually always look forward to Billy's opening number and thought it was one of the few highlights of the show. I especially like the montage of him in the different movies. And I have to give props to my man Micahel Moore and his cameo.
Other highlights....
Nicole Kidman completely blowing off Joan Rivers on the red carpet. And she did it with such grace!
Tim Robbins acceptance speech.
Sean Penn's WMD comment.
Trying to figure out where Charlize Theron's eyebrows were.
Oh I fogot one!....looking at Will Smith all night.

re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: Final Verdict on the Oscars

Very dull Oscar night as it was a dull year for films. The only part I really liked was seeing Mitch and Mickey sing "A Kiss at the of Rainbow". I knew who was going to win, but my personal choices were:

Picture: Lost in Translation
Director: Sofia Coppola
Actor: Johnny Depp
Actress: Keisha Castle-Hughes
Supporting Actor: Tim Robbins
Supporting Actress: Renee Zelwegger
Original Screenplay: Finding Nemo
Adapted Screenplay: Lord of the Rings
Score: Lord of the Rings
Song: A Mighty Wind
Art Direction: Girl With a Pearl Earring
Cinematography: Master and Commander
Costume: Girl With a Pearl Earring
Film Editing: Master and Commander
Sound Mixing: Master and Commander
Sound Editing: Master and Commander
Visual Effects: Lord of the Rings
Animated Feature: Finding Nemo

Short films and documentaries I didn't know enough about to comment.

Aside from Johnny Depp not winning, I enjoyed the telecast. I am amazed that LOTR: ROTK swept, which I have no qualms with as I saw it three times in theatres and believe the trilogy to be the finest ever made, an epic feat.

re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: Final Verdict on the Oscars

It was the longest, most boring Oscars ever.

While LOTR was unfairly slighted in past years, did they need to go overboard this year? I thought the TRIPLETS song and the sublime Kiss At The End of the Rainbow were much better songs than the LOTR song.

Every award went where you expected it would. I really wanted Bill Murray to win but I would have been happy to have seen Depp win just to shake things up.

As several film critics noted, any of the women in the supporting actress category were more deserving than Zellweger. Aghdashloo was extraordinary. Harden was terrific. And Zellweger gets it for her Young Granny Clampett routine because last year they gave her CHICAGO Oscar to Kidman for her supporting performance. I liked Zellweger until I saw far too many "sincere" acceptance speeches from her in the past two years. I groaned when I saw her pull the folded piece of paper from her purse.

I guess if you're into LOTR, then it was probably wonderful to see, but it just bored me to tears. I could respect the artistry involved in the making of the films and I really wanted to enjoy them, but it's just not a subject that interests me. The first was ok, the second I fell asleep, the third was an hour too long.

i agree with EVERY one of Mr.Matt's choices!

LOTR didnt need/deserve all of them. Makeup? c'mon! that was Pirates and the Caribeean's!
