Is this the first year since they came out with Toy Story that there hasn't been a Pixar movie?
Toy Story was in 1995. A Bugs Life didn't come out until 1998.
There were no Pixar films in 2000, 2002, or 2005. From 2006 on they have released 1 film every year.
Oh gotcha. just seems like a June tradition.
According to Wikipedia they are releasing two films in 2015 though. Which will be a first I believe.
I know they have Finding Dorie in the mix, what's the other? I'm sick of all the sequels.

Finding Dory is slated for a 2016 release. Not 2015.
The 2015 films are "Inside Out" (June release) and "The Good Dinosaur" (November release).

I think they had a film scheduled for this summer, but moved it for whatever reason. I recall there being some industry reporters discussing this same issue after Pixar/Disney made the change.
There is Planes: Fire and Rescue opening in July but I don't know if that's actually Pixar or if it's Disney.

They should take a few years off after Monsters PU.
That was such a disappointment.
I loved Monsters, Inc. but Monsters PU was just boring.

Ditto.
For the record, "Planes" and its upcoming sequel are not produced by either Pixar or Disney Animation Studios proper. These movies, as well as the Tinker Bell movies and the direct-to-video "cheapquels" of the naughties, are produced by DisneyToon Studios. However, Pixar and Disney chief John Lasseter maintains a vested interest in these DisneyToons projects and it was his call to bring the originally bound direct-to-DVD "Planes" to theaters.
As for upcoming Pixar movies, I know in 2015 they have "Inside Out," a movie about the personified emotions of an adolescent girl as well as "The Good Dinosaur," which I think is the one that got pushed back-- it's about an alternate universe where dinosaurs evolved alongside humans.
I'm interested in "Inside Out" but from what I've seen from "The Good Dinosaur," which I admit is little, I'm not that impressed. As for their latest bunch of releases, I liked "Monsters University" well enough-- the original is my favorite Pixar film-- but it was lacking that extra "oomph" you expect from the studio. I didn't really like "Brave" either and I never bothered to watch "Cars 2" since I disliked the original so much.
Thanks for clarifying that "Planes" question Gorlois.
I know absolutely nothing about The Good Dinosaur.

I would classify Monsters University as one of those movies that shows that even a "disappointing" Pixar movie is still a cut ahead of lot of the other schlock that makes it into theaters.

I dunno. I felt like it steered right into the schlock heap.

'The Good Dinosaur' being delayed really hurt the summer box office. Even with 'Maleficent', 'How to Train Your Dragon 2', and 'Planes, Fires & Rescue, the delay' deprived the summer of blockbuster family-friendly film and robbed the box office of an important demographic.
