Food Network

I love food, I love cooking, I love about half the shows on Food TV. But the other ones....

I am watching Paula Deen's son's show right now. It's supposedly food that you can cook for family dinners. It might as well be called "Food Jack Deen Likes" because that is all this host can talk about- Jack being his infant son.

I also saw one about preparing a picnic to take to the playground that involved hot cider, sweet glazed carrots and "Sticky honey chicken." Oh, and an Olive Oil Cake for dessert. Why not just give your kid a bag of sugar? It'd be easier and probably tidier.

And DO NOT get me started on the Pioneer Woman! (she was making "Green chili enchiladas" that were grated cheese in corn tortillas, doused with bottled green salsa and MICROWAVED for 30 seconds! THIS IS A COOKING SHOW?) (oops got me started!)

I gave up on the Food Network ages ago. Pioneer Woman = SKANK

Food Network

I gave up on Food Network when I moved to San Francisco. I sometimes catch a show if the bar I happen to be at is playing it, but I haven't watched it at home or on my computer since.

I would totally watch Good Eats on repeat right now.

That pioneer woman makes the worst food. She seems to avoid ANY flavor and her husband keeps her terrorized. She made this casserole that looked good and I went to her site to look at the recipe and there were about 40 comments- all raving about the casserole- AFTER they added or changed some ingredients. Otherwise it's just ground beef with plain tomato sauce over noodles with sour cream and cottage cheese.

If i have to hear one more time about how Ladd doesn't like wine...

Her cinnamon rolls are pretty awesome, though.

I like how Rachel Ray calls everything "rustic". That means it's messy, dumbass.

I saw Rachels' "week in a day" program today. Se made a "Beans and rice" that was not only completely unidentifiable, she dirtied 4 pans, a mixing bowl and a casserole dish before the thing was done. And her show's conceit is that you should make this concurrently with 4 other entrees? Sorry bitch I just don't have enough kitchenware!

I've actually made several of her recipes and they're no good. Finished with her!

And, like the Duggars, are home-schoolin', right wing republicans.

I can't stand her show. Between her attitude about her husband and they way she thinks her kids have importance beyond her scope, I get nauseous.

As for the newtwork,it has seen better days. Too many contest and reality shows for my cookin' self.

I absolutely adore the food network. CHALLENGE and IRON CHEF OF AMERICA are my favorites. I am a horrible cook, but the professionals make it look so easy. I actually have gotten a bit better just by watching the shows.
So Lauren Bacall me, anything goes! *wink*

I do enjoy Iron Chef.

JoeKv99,

With regards to the Pioneer Woman using the microwave, i'll give her that. Keep in mind one thing. Before Food Network got caught up in all those cooking contest shows, their focus was how to cooking shows for people who wanted to cook but realistically don't have a ton of time to do so. More along the lines of someone who's been at work all day, and doesn't have all the time of a professional chef to make a fancy meal. That's why shows like 30 Min Meals etc have been a success. While they do air tons of reality cooking shows, they still do a good job of keeping their daytime, how to cooking shows focused on those who have a very buys life but need to make a good tasting meal that doesn't take that long to make.

Dramamama-Are you talking about Paula Deen or Rachael Ray or someone else? Sorry, I'm getting confused. Because I know Rachael Ray does not have kids.

I used to watch Food Network more often than I do now. I'm guilty of liking the cake and other challenge shows like that. That stuff fascinates me. I also loved Unwrapped, but I don't think that's on anymore. Right now, I like Chopped and Worst Cooks in America.

My favorite now is Master Chef, on Fox. They're currently having the competition for children, ages 8=12 and it's astounding how they can cook on and above the adult chef's level. they've even out cooked the judges.

Two more words: Guy Fieri.

And a third: Yechhh.
Cheyenne Jackson tickled me. AFTER ordering SoMMS a drink but NOT tickling him, and hanging out with Girly in his dressing room (where he DIDN'T tickle her) but BEFORE we got married. To others. And then he tweeted Boobs. He also tweeted he's good friends with some chick on "The Voice" who just happens to be good friends with Tink's ex. And I'm still married. Oh, and this just in: "Pettiness, spite, malice ....Such ugly emotions... So sad." - After Eight, talking about MEEEEEEEE!!! I'm so honored! :-)

Anyone see Guy's new show last night? "Guy's Grocery Games"...it is a smashup of the old "Supermarket Sweep" and a cooking show. Mildly amusing.

BTW - I used to love watching his "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives"...UNTIL...I ate meals at a few of the establishments that he raved about. Let's just say I have an entirely degraded appreciation for what he considers delicious, amazing etc. The food I had did not resemble in any way, shape or form at all. Hardly worth featuring on a program!

Food Network

I watch alot of Food Network. HGTV and it are my first "I wonder what's on" channels, for some reason. I hate to cook and am no decorator, but I do like certain shows on each. If I'm going to watch a straight on cooking show, it'll be Aarti Party, even though I hate alot of what she makes (enough with the raisins!)

Guy Fieri disgusts me and I'd never eat anything he prepares, but I do like DDD because of the other personalities.

I've watched Irvine's restaurant makeover show and always have the same reaction...SHUT UP! Quit yelling at poor Tanya! Take 3 days instead of 2 if you cant finish the flooring in time!

The ones I hate are the hidden camera "gotcha" restaurant shows. They are so staged and fake and that one guy is such a blowhard!

I'm usually grossed out by what's on and switch to House Hunters. It's always on!

Guy Fieri (Pronounced Ferry until Guy wanted to be a TV star) is loathsome. I can not stand his "catch phrases" and I seriously question what he thinks a "Diner, Drive in or Dive" is. Some of the places he profiles are what I'd call "expensive restaurants." We saw some burger place in Vegas this weekend and the burger the chef made sells for $17- a la carte. He raved about some chile cheese fries that were $14- what kind of dive charges you $31 for a burger & chile cheese fires?

And I get queasy watching him in those kitchens- his hygiene is AWFUL! Bare fingers poked into pots of salad dressing? Eating directly out of a serving pan? Double-dipping? Every time some chef pulls a roast or a brisket out of the over and Fieri is there to rip a piece off and eat it standing over the pots on the stove I shudder.

And I got nothing against quick n easy meals- quite the contrary. I think Trisha Yearwood's show does a pretty good job walking the line- this weekend she made a chicken pie where she made the crust (and some biscuits) from scratch but used canned soup in the pie.

I do think a TV "Chef" passing off a tortilla wrapped around some cheese n salsa and microwaved as a "recipe" is sort of sad. If she had tossed it in as one of her nonsensical asides ("Know what Ladd loves? I put cheese in tortillas, dump bottled salsa on it and microwave it!") that would be fine but this was presented as an honest-to-god recipe!

Food Network

I used to be a Food Network diehard. The only two "cooks" that I can tolerate now are Ina Garten and Trisha Yearwood. I don't watch for what they cook, but because I love their personalities. Ina is a drinking game of predictability and Trisha is a breath of fresh Southern air and makes me smile.
