We view it the same as if Ford gave into the KKK and removed ads with Black people in them.
If you can not process that concept, then our discussion is done here.

I don't think any of us own a Ford vehicle... and the less number of ads I see in magazine, the better.
So what's your point?

no, the fundies are no more entitled, and they were roundly criticized when they announced they were going after Ford
you might want to go back and read some of those articles

"I don't think any of us own a Ford vehicle"
doesn't that in itself indicate Ford would be just throwing good money after bad if they continued advertising on the same scale?

I know some gay people own Fords, but I don't think any of us on BWW own one. Atleast, no one has admitted to it publicly.
I have a Ford, so I guess I'll have to be gettin out the rainbow window flags.

I guess Ford does not own Mercedes yet eh Captain? I happen to know three queens who own Jags - so yes we own Fords.

I kind of detest people who advertise their homosexuality with flags and stickers.
Yeah, you're gay. Get over it.
and Yawper, it isnt a matter of why Ford did it, but that they withdrew the ads at all. It is furthering a hateful agenda "for their bottom line." I'm glad The Advocate is giving up thier revenue to make a positive statement that they dont want Ford's money.
I dont care if you detest me CO, and it was a joke.

Cheeze.. Who are you again? And no, last I checked Ford didn't (and won't) own Mercedes, but we're not talking about Mercedes. We're talking about Fords.

I didn't mean you in general, but people who wear their gayness on anything. It's one thing to be proud, but its another to shove it down my throat.

The Advocate's action is just as extortionary as AFA's and is amazingly ill-informed

We have to think who drives more Fords, homosexuals or heterosexuals.
The answer is heterosexuals. You've got to cater to your clients. That's how I see it.
i have a rainbow in my back window of my car. i used to have it because i was proud; now i have it to give other people hope. i remember how excited i used to get when i saw a vehicle with a pride sticker in it - just knowing there were more people "like me" out there made me feel good.

CO--don't know if you are gay or straight, but it seems pretty OBVIOUS that you are an ahole either way.

"We"? - speak for yourself, thanks, and just so you know I'm not alone -
Jeffrey Montgomery, executive director of the Triangle Foundation, called Ford's "record of fairness ... an excellent model for other corporate entities to follow."
"Ford admits that it will cease advertising some brands, such as Jaguar and Land Rover, in 'gay' media, but will continue with others, like Volvo, but that those are business-driven decisions, not a response to the homophobes of the AFA," Montgomery said. "We are confident that Ford will continue to support the broad community of people who buy their products and look to them for leadership in fairness, diversity and equal treatment.
Asked whether any Motor City Pride sponsors have experienced a backlash because of their support of the event, Kevin McAlpine, development director of the Triangle Foundation said, "None whatsoever. All of our sponsors, vendors - no one has been subject to any scrutiny or influence from any organization like the AFA. On the contrary, the gay/lesbian and social justice communities see these corporations supporting human rights issues and in turn develop brand loyalty towards those companies."
"Anyone or any organization that would hold a company hostage to its own interests is fooling themselves and exposes their own fatuous view of the world," Montgomery said. "The AFA is infamous for just such stupidity."

Umm, heterosexuals probably drive more of any make of car than homosexuals because they outnumber us by 10-1. But most straight people I know -- homophobic or not -- don't give a damn who advertises in The Advocate. They don't read The Advocate. So advertising to a minority group does not mean you still can't cater to the majority, too.
And as was said earlier in this thread, we gays have a lot more discretionary income than Toothless Two-Ton Trailer-Park Timmy, who would be the most apt to fall for a stupid boycott like this. And that Ford seemed to bend at all to his leader, the AFA, is weak.

Your opinion, Yawper. I believe it's Ford's actions that are ill-informed and unwarranted.
As far as I'm concerned, the AFA is a group of hate-mongers.
Yawper, if you read the link PJ provided earlier in this thread, you'd see that Ford now admits that they were bowing to pressure from hate mongers. Who's uninformed here?
