I've always thought of Phelps and the WBC as apolitical. Since they hate everybody.

Wow! I know one of the neo-cons in the GOP under Bush II announced condescendingly that he and his party weren't "reality-based". But calling Fred Phelps a "liberal" is so loony it's ridiculous.

Fred Phelps was a civil rights attorney years ago but really, his views on gay people should place right in between the fringe to mainstream conservative. And of course a Fox News story would cite the crazy Free Republic web site.

On a related note. I just signed the petition on Whitehouse.gov asking that WBC be designated a Hate group, thereby losing it's tax exempt status in the process.Perhaps if they had to pay taxes on their income they wouldn't have that much money to travel and spread their special kind of hate.

Fred Phelps has ran for office many times as a Democrat so it's partially accurate.
