There is no movie version. You probably believed some sort of email hoax.
I don't know why people continue to do this play. Not because of the so-called blasphemy, but because it's not a very good play.

Posted: 6/20/10 at 1:42pmI remember several critics and audience members remarking that it was a good thing that the play was so controversial when it opened in NY, since the protests and controversy were far more interesting than what was actually going on in the theatre.

Just saw this on a blog I go to. Pretty amazing.
Really Texas?
Texas GOP Platform
• Calling for repeal of the Real ID Act, which “creates an unconstitutional and privacy-inhibiting national ID card.
• Banning the use of red light cameras.
• Making American English the official language of Texas and the United States.
• Creating a felony offense for anyone who performs a marriage ceremony for a same-sex couple.
• Passing legislation requiring a sonogram for each pregnant woman seeking an abortion.
• Opposing legislation allowing stem cell research involving the creation of killing of human embryos for medical research.
• Calling for the immediate transition to a system of private pensions and gradually phasing out the Social Security tax.
• Calling for the repeal of the state lottery and opposing any further legalization of any type of gambling.
• Urging Congress to “repeal and reject the national healthcare takeover, also known as ‘ObamaCare.’?”
• Protecting the right to access raw milk directly from the farmer.
• Opposing automatic college admissions rules, such as the top 10 percent rule.
• Calling for the repeal of the No Child Left Behind law and the U.S. Department of Education.
• Removing the tenure system for Texas state colleges and universities.
• Opposing all bailouts of businesses.
• Recommending a national sales tax to replace all other federal taxes.
• Calling on the Legislature to repeal the revised franchised tax.
• Urging Congress to evict the United Nations from the United States to rescind U.S. membership.
• Urging the Legislature to require Voter ID.
I hear Texas is a beautiful state but what's with all these morons and rednecks?

I am not trying to open a can of worms, but here's what I think:
It wouldn't just piss off Texans, but a majority of Christians as a whole, whether they're pro-gay or not. I praise creativity and thinking outside the box, but I think writing a play where Jesus is represented as gay might be taking it a bit too far. That's like doing a bio-pic on Harvey Milk and portraying him as straight throughout the whole thing. It would piss off both gays and straights who praised Milk.
Again, I'm not trying to piss off anyone, but you gotta look at it from both sides. I hope I'm making some sense.

Why is it peachy keen to depict Jesus as a silky-haired, fair-skinned, blue-eyed Renaissance era European, but gay is crossing the line?
And besides, degrassifan, because it pisses you off is not a reason to not produce a play. John Hagee pisses me off, but I'm not demanding he be taken off the airwaves.
That said, Phyllis is right. The play itself isn't very good.

Posted: 6/20/10 at 4:25pmI saw the original at MTC and thought it was decent, but I guess it the production, because upon reading it and encountering it on stage again, it just isn't good.

Jesus surrounded himself with 12 MALE disciples. He had a choice, so the whole thing is up for debate in my humble theological opinion.
And to reinforce what has been said already, I don't think Jesus of Nazareth would have been the fair hired, Ayrian he is depicted in the works of art painted quite a while after his demise. So why do Christians cling to the dream?
And yes, Harvey Milk was gay, there is no doubt so, portraying him as a straight man isn't an opition and anything other is not worth the debating time.

Must have been a REALLY slow news day. It's a small town between Ft. Worth and Abilene and it's not even a professional production. It's a local college class project. Corpus Christi has been produced in Texas numerous times with no fuss at all. I played Judas in the Southwest premiere of Corpus Christi in Houston. The reviews were decent and there were no protests, threats or backlash of any kind.
Phyllis - The second half is where the show really falls apart. It starts pretty strong (with the exception of the clunky opening monologues), but the concept gets muddy and disjointed in the second act when the allegorical Texas tale pretty much goes by the wayside and it just becomes literal. By the time you get to the Last Supper, the point of setting the action in Texas in the 50s and having gay characters gets completely lost.
