Is anyone here being raised by a gay parent? How do the kids at school treat you? My neice has two Dads and there are a number of kids in her school that are in the same situation. So in her case it is no big deal. Has anyone else dealt with having a gay parent?

I know gay parents, but their children are young. I didn't go to high school with anyone with gay parents. If I did, I didn't know about it.
I've talked to my kids quite a few times about this. They are both teenagers and have not experienced any negativity regarding their dad. It's a non-issue for them and their friends. They live in the suburbs of a major city on the east coast and the majority of the kids are fairly open-minded.
I had a friend at school that had two mums.
He did get quite a bit of hell for it, and so became quite Homophobic and aggressive...
Not to his mothers though...
Straight mom, gay dad. Never had any affect in school.
But did your school mates know your Dad is gay? Were you raised by both of your parents?
Raised by both parents, yes. My dad had a partner for several years, but they broke up. Most of my friends were aware of the situation.
I grew up in suburban Jersey, if that counts for anything.
It's interesting. There is a bit of a difference (forgive the generalizing) between kids raised by parents who split up and kids raised by a gay couple who decide it's time to start a family.
In the former case, there is a trauma (a divorce) and the entire process of coming out to your kids.
In the second, it's a natural state for the family.
I'd be interested in hearing experiences from both sides.
I am the product of a gay father....I think my mother has issues as well....it was pretty traumatic when my Dad left....He left when I was 5....the hatred my mother holds for my father was astounding! He commited suicide when I was 16, I take it he couldnt deal with it.
That's awful, Bobby. I'm sorry.
I'm so sorry, Bobby. It really breaks my heart when I hear stories like that. How does your mother deal with you being gay?
We dont talk about it.....thats one of the reasons I live 2500 miles from the family! They are red-neck trailer trash and I kid you not. Thanks for the sorrys, but its Ok....it was actually the best thing he ever did for us kids....I was able to go to college from the social security benefits...until Ronald Reagan took care of that....
My mom used to munch carpet recreationally, but she's since reformed. :-P
Bobby's got great GENES, but you should see what's in his JEANS.
aw shucks Jaily!! As far as the genepool is concerned with my family....My mom used to have a GREAT smile....my Dad was very tall and skinny....my mom short and we will say "stout" she wasnt fat.....Mom is 4'10" and my Dad was 6'7"....what a sight that was....but both were not bad looking....
Oh geez, I hope Auntie reads that. LOL
I used to babysit for this little boy who had 2 moms. He was in about 6th grade, and was a somewhat average kid. He was a little sensitive compared to other boys I babysat, but I don't think it was ever a problem for him, or his moms. They were pretty cool ladies too.
In the show I was just in, the music director and her partner have five kids (a set of twins). Didn't quite catch who's the birth mom... the kids are all very well adjusted, even met the dad of two of them.
Yes, my mother was a giant slut. She has three children, we all have different fathers, and she's only ever been married to my sister's father (my stepdad). It wasn't until I was 18 (I came out to her at 12, mind you) that SHE decided to reveal the full extent of HER teenaged indiscretions of the Sapphic variety.
Not that I'm surprised. She's 6'2, Swedish, young, hot, and was a totally hippie. If *I* looked ANYTHING like her, I'm sure I'd have slept with everyone I met, too.
Not to get off topic here or anything, but I think you turned out just fine Jaily!

I wonder what the point of THAT would be?? Im more embarressed that my family are a bunch of red-necks than I am of my gay father!
Here is another question. Do you think children who are raised by gay parents are more attracted to gay people? I don't mean sexually but socially. I know a woman who's father was gay and was always around gay men growing up. Now instead of having boyfriends that she sleeps with she has really really good gay friends. I guess you would call her a hag, but I just wonder if there is a connection.
