Genius Aretha

Thoughts?   Miscast. But she was fab.  I had trouble with the time jumps and I liked the older Aretha scenes better.  Courtney Vance was so powerful.  Really beautiful work from both leads.  Haven't seen much talk about this show.  Did I miss a thread?

Hey DAME, I agree with your assessment. I thought Erivo was mis-cast but she was serviceable. Can't say enough about Vance - that man can sit and read the freaking phone book and I will pay top dollar for the honor to see him do it. 

I don't think you missed a thread. No one here has started one. 

August will see the release of RESPECT starring Jennifer Hudson.

This kind of bombed ratings wise.   It has been sitting on my DVR and I can't bring myself to watch it .

Between Genius and Respect, I hope that one day there is a project where Aretha’s voice is used.

Disappointed with Respect. Powerful performances all around, especially from Jennifer Hudson, but the book tried to cover too much ground and therefore gave too little to any one chapter of Aretha Franklin‘s life. The final package comes across as a jukebox musical; Aretha deserves better.

Exceptional vocal performance by Jennifer Hudson, but throughout the film, I was never convinced she was playing Aretha unlike when I saw Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury.

Thought about going to see this, but have heard mostly negative reviews. A shame both of these movies about Aretha didn't pan out well.

JH was fine. But there was nothing above average in this movie. I forgot most of it already. Loved seeing the trailer for the Gucci film.

I am good. Retired in real life. Still check in on this thing out of habit. Did you ever marry Denzel?
