I left the hospital a little while ago, and I am happy to say that our boy is doing much better today! He's looking good and slowly but surely getting stronger. It's going to take time, but he's going to be fine.
He's past the most worrisome stage, the 24-hours just following surgery. But it was a serious operation, so he has some serious pain! The cute doctor came by again this evening and was singing...I consider this a good sign! (I also love the fact that this particular doctor's name has a Grey Gardens connection!)
The doctor said that the tumor had more than doubled in size within the past few weeks so it's fortunate that the procedure was scheduled so quickly and that it was so successful.
Norn's Mom is fabulous...like that's a surprise! With her by his side, he's going to exceed all expectations and be "back to nornal" in no time. (Snicker if you must, but I actually find that pun amusing.) She has such a positive and radiant spirit...exactly what a "patient" needs in a situation like this.
Sound medical care, strong moral support and lots of love...Norn's got it all! And I really think he looks more adorable than ever.
I read this entire thread to him at his bedside and it really cheered him. So keep being witty and amusing! (And for those of you who were neither, now is a good time to START!)
It's going to sound corny and cliched, but I don't care: At times like these, we realize what people mean to us. The night before I left for NYC, I told my kids I would be away for a few days because I was going to be with Norn in the hospital and I explained why. Then I said, "Let's hold hands and close our eyes and say our wishes for him." They said the simplest things:"Uncle Norn is always so good to us...Uncle Norn is so nice...Uncle Norn does really great drawings...Uncle Norn is funny...Uncle Norn is our uncle" (that's my favorite one)...and,of course, "We love Uncle Norn."
The simplest truths are also the most profound.
We do love you, Uncle Norn. You make our world a more beautiful place...and not just with your art.
Xooo
