Somebody needs to tell Sandra Bullock that the role of SALT was already taken by Angelina Jolie.

Honestly, this is one of those cases where the word "dreamy" can be used without being mocked. I could listen to him talk forever.

I thought Ricky Gervais may have been the first awards show host to have been fired mid-show, but then he came back on. As much as Hollywood doesn't want to accept his nasty, bitter comedy-- it's all true! I'm laughing out loud at him.

Not my favorite.

I still cannot get into The Social Network as Best Picture material. I think the critics are looking for a zeitgeist film like Network that will age well but I really do not see it with this film.

Does Joan Rivers get to tell Kelly O. how hideous she looked tonight?
Is HBC's "gown" the ultimate FU dress?

Tina and Steve made me laugh. Ricky did not.

There was a buffet of yummy men in that room.

Colin Firth . . . that's all I can say.

I want to use Justin Bieber for target practice.

Oh Ricky, You Weren't Fine: Gervais Banned From Globes Hosting Duties?

Gervais then mentioned that the special effects team from 'Sex and the City 2' should have been nominated for making the cast look younger on the movie poster.

The best part of this joke was when they showed a close up of Chris Noth looking to whomever was sitting next to him with a "you know it's true" look on his face"

btw...has anyone seen the dress Natalie Portman wore to the after-party? MUCH cuter than her Globes dress. Jennifer Lopez changed too...but not for the better.

Yes, Ricky Gervais Was Too Nasty at the Golden Globes

I can't say I'm sorry to hear that Ricky Gervais has been soundly criticized for his behavior last night.

I thought his performance as host was mean-spirited and not even close to being funny. I've never been a fan of his. I recall having a less-than-positive reaction last year when learning he had been named host. I'm not surprised by this latest turn.

Our world right now needs to be lifted up. We need civil discourse, and joyful hope. Jokes are fine and wonderful - when they're funny and don't tear people down and hurt them. Our politicians and our entertainers and everyone who gets a moment in the spotlight need to think about the words they use and the tone they take.

Sure, some jokes can fail. And I don't hold that against the person telling them. But jokes that are intended to hurt are not my brand of entertainment. And I'm glad to see people speaking up against them - and him.

I hope we can all turn a new page in society. We are in desperate need of something positive. Build up. Stop tearing down.

The funny people for me were Downey, Jr. and Tina Fey & Steve Carell - and they didn't resort to the attacks like he did.

Kind of beside the point, but his jokes were actually pretty 'old', for lack of a better term. The Tom and John gay rumors? Really? And Downey has been on a recovery path for years now. So, again, really?

Oh please, these are actors. Mostly overpaid, spoon-fed, straight out of the industry actors who get their butt kissed 24/7. Three hours at an awards ceremony they are not required to be at, with booze at their disposal, is not the ninth circle of hell.

I found Robert Downey Jr. promptly objectifying all of the female nominees into sexual objects more inappropriate than anything Ricky Gervais said, especially after Downey was the target of Gervais. Whether he played along or had a stick up his you know where, I had secondhand embarrassment for the nominees (Emma Stone looked a bit uncomfortable with where it was going).

I agree with Eris' earlier comments on Sorkin's speech. At first I didn't get it and found his use of the word 'elite' to be puzzling but in comparison to how he viewed role models for his daughter, it was a nice contrast to how many of the women were singled out last night (I do include Gervais' low-hanging fruit about Sex and The City 2).

I don't think who or what the people he was mocking are has anything to do with anything. His display came across as a crass, mean, and spiteful way for humans to treat each other - and I don't find that entertaining in the least. The only real acceptance for his performance seems to be coming from those who feel the 'spoiled hollywood folks' somehow deserve the treatment.

And for the record, I reject completely that successful industry people are automatically spoiled brats surrounded by toadies.

As to Mr. Downey, my take on his monologue was that he was objectifying himself, not the women, and ended up basically comiing to the conclusion that they were above such nonsense and him - which he allowed them and the audience to laugh with him over, not at. The other interpretation seems knee-jerk PC, to me.
