I had to download and watch today!
It seems the comment about the Scientologists is what pissed the most people off. That's one of the few things that didn't make me groan. No, it wasn't that funny, as everyone knows about it and talks about it, but has anyone ever said it in such a public forum? The article I read said the line was met with boos and groans. I didn't hear boos, just sounds of shock, as in, "I can't believe he said that!" I thought other things he said over the course of the night were much worse. Of course, the assumed subjects of that joke annoy the sh*t out of me, so I guess I didn't mind it much.
Did Jane Fonda get a completely positive reception? Maybe it's just that I am always on the look out when she makes an appearance, but there seemed to be some mixed reactions.
Christina looked PISSED that Cher got all of the praise for Burlesque.
And Angelina (awful dress. I hope she ate something.) and Brad seemed pretty happy.

In reference to the Scientologist I think what bothered people is the timing. I'm not even going to talk about Cruise because I'm not really sure how many "friends" he has left in Hollywood. But, Travolta comes off as a tremendously nice guy (to me at least) and has been through a lot in recent history. I think people feel he shouldn't be a target because of what happened to his son and because, other than the birth of his son, he hasn't had much publicity recently. Not long ago one of those rag magazines went after Travolta with a totally made up story and they caught some heat because of the reason I mentioned.

I was listening for boos but I didn't hear any. Honestly, I don't think most of young Hollywood knows/cares about what she did and that the people who do remember are classy enough to not air it in a public forum such as the Globes.

True about Travolta. I wasn't even thinking of that. He does seem like a genuinely nice guy. It's the other one I can't stand. lol
It's always hard to tell on the GGs because there's so much chatter and such.

To each their own, Q. I can definitely see the other side of those comments.
I definitely think Jane Fonda's past will gill way over the heads of current Hollywood.
There seemed to be a couple of catcalls to Gervais after the Scientology comment but both happened at once and I could not make out what anybody said amidst the shocked reaction.

Posted: 1/18/11 at 11:44amGervais was terrible. I dont mind his mean spiritedness sometimes and usually find him pretty funny. This year he just was NOT FUNNY! Old jokes about old tired subjects. Travolta, Cruise in the closet? Seriously? He even stole a joke from an old Kathy Griffin routine.
