Tanny had a wonderful evening in the park. She can't be off the leash but she can still play and run with other dogs. So much fun after that long winter!
It's an "I Claudius" night/weekend.

Just wanted to let my friends who read this thread know that I'm leaving the Joffrey Ballet after this season. As most of you know our Artistic Director is very old and a team of four which I am part of has been running the company for the past eleven years. Mr. Joffrey would be very sad about my leaving and the dancers are very sad as are many on the staff and board. But I've not been happy with our Executive Director for many years. He has steadily put a grip on the artistic side of the product and I would prefer he stay out of programming and simply raise money.
Long story short, the leader of our team was invited to interview for Artistic Director and subsequently hired by Ballet West in Salt Lake City, Utah. He asked me to join Ballet West as Ballet Master and Director of Ballet West II. I accepted his offer and tendered my letter of resignation today. I'm sad to leave the Joffrey. I joined the company at 17 years of age and I had my first ballet class with Mr. Joffrey at age 12. But I know this is the right thing to do. When I told Mr. Arpino yesterday he said that he would be very sad to see me go but he understands my need for change. I was with Joffrey for thirteen years as a dancer, Oregon Ballet Theatre for nine years as ballet master and then Joffrey for eleven years as ballet master. It's kind of neat to change things every decade or so. I'll still stage GISELLE for next fall. I'm going to Utah next week to sign and after that there will be a press release. I'll keep you posted.

Posted: 4/3/07 at 9:23pmI know it's a very hard thing for you to do - but I also know that your star will shine wherever you go. The Ballet West is blessed to get you!

Glebby, Joffrey's loss is Salt Lake City's gain.
Your loyalty to the Joffrey is very special, and your integrity when it comes to all aspects of the Company should be celebrated. But now it's time for you to spread your wings and receive the recognition and enjoy the artistic freedom which you deserve!
I'll be there for GISELLE, but I'll also be seeing you out West!
I'm so proud of you!

PS: does Tanny have her Easter Bonnet?
I can just see her on Fifth Avenue...
In your Easter bonnet, with all the frills upon it,
You'll be the grandest lady in the Easter parade.
I'll be all in clover and when they look you over,
I'll be the proudest fellow in the Easter parade.
On the Avenue, Fifth Avenue, the photographers will snap us,
And you'll find that you're in the rotogravure.
Oh, I could write a sonnet about your Easter bonnet,
And of the girl I'm taking to the Easter parade.

It's public!
You know what I think? Salt Lake City is closer to LA than Chicago is

Congratulations on this momentous move. I'll be there in Chicago, for Giselle--your Joffrey swan song.
(Or am I coming to Chicago for Swan Lake--your Joffrey giselle song?)
At any rate, congratulations!

Glebby, I know you're not a fan of Twyla Tharp's, but I'll quote her anyway:
"The only thing I fear more than change is no change."
Congratulations on this new adventure in your life! How exciting for you, for Ballet West and all the lovers of dance you have touched and those you will reach in the future!
You know your friends will follow you wherever you go.

This is so bittersweet. I am so happy you are moving to a position that seems perfect and offers what I am sure will be some very challenging and rewarding opportunities. But you will be missed terribly by all. Congratulations, though, they are so lucky to get you.
By the way, since Salt Lake is a "dog free zone" I will gladly take Tanny off of your hands. You may have visitation rights whenever you are in town...

Change can be an excellent thing, Glebby. Congratulations!
I will be there in October as well... and SLC is SO much closer to Seattle as well. I can see it now... skiing and Glebby at the same time.

Thank you all for your sweet comments and well wishes. Your support is greatly appreciated.
And Sueleen, Tanny's with me! She's been to NYC, DC, Detroit, Newport News, Charleston and LA. SLC is the first place where she is staying at the hotel for free. :)
