Cturtle - Google YAGP to read about it.
It's a ballet competition. I'm judging in one of the regionals but the finals are in NYC.
Yes Flippancy! Tanny is named after a very long legged Ballerina who was named after an Etruscan Empress.

Hi, C! Hi, G! Hi, T!
C, why don't we meet in South Carolina sometime if you're so close?

Oh C - I want to go the finals and Gala in NYC too!
Unfortunately Ballet West will be in performances at the same time.
I had a blast! It was tons of fun. Larissa Saleliev made me feel welcomed from the moment we met. She is a former Bolshoi Ballet dancers and the founder of YAGP. Her husband is presently a soloit with American Ballet Theatre. I was looking at my semi-finals program for the spelling of her name and it was no where to be found. She's doing so much for the young dancers and yet she is totally humble, very inspiring.
Yes C - there was a semi-final this past weekend in South Carolina as well. Larissa has built quite an operation.
OK - It's time to pick up Tanny from Camp Barkalot. We have a date to cuddle with the Oscars tonight.

Glebb,
If you could, what ballet performance would you like to go back in time to see? Or what dancer doing what role?

C - There were some outstanding guys.
Both the junior and senior divisions resulted in male Grand Prix winners.
The senior winner being from Ballet West Academy. :)
I love your question Flippancy!
If I could only pick one - it would be "Pas de Quatre" at Her Majesty's Theatre in London - 1845 - starring the greatest Ballerinas of the Romantic Era - Marie Taglioni, Carlotta Grisi, Lucile Grahn and Fanny Cerrito. I have the famous lithograph from this performance framed and near me in my office.
I would love to have seen the premieres of "Giselle" and "La Sylphide". I also wish I could have seen Nijinksy in "Le Spectre de la Rose" and Mathilde Kschessinskaya in anything. I posed in front of her St. Petersburg Mansion when I visited in 97.

Posted: 2/28/08 at 11:33amWasn't Mathilde Kschessinskaya Nicholas's mistress before he became Czar? I seem to remember that name from my Russian Imperialist History readings. I believe Alexandra wasn't too crazy about her.

Yes she was Nicky's mistress before his marriage to Alicky.
Many people were not crazy about Mathilde. She was very demanding and she could run to the Imperial Family when she was not happy with the state of the Arts in Imperial Russia.

...as others have done, I am remembering Glebb with love by finding his old threads.
I've spent some time this evening reading every post in this thread, and taking an incredible trip down memory lane.
This thread was my favorite.
It captures the purity of heart, the incredible adventure that his life was, and his masterful knowledge of the world of ballet. It captures the silly fun, the smiles, and most of all the love.
BWW was a special place when Glebb was part of it.
My heart is broken, but it's full. And always will be.
The playful posts may have been message board fun and games, but the love and friendship were very real.
Glebb... thank you.
I love you.

Addy, you really know how to bring on the tears.
I remember this thread. You wanted all of us who loved Mark to help him settle in when he moved to Utah because he felt displaced and lonely. That's the kind of friend you are.
As I'm reading through the thread, I can see video of the Nutcracker in the corner of the screen.

Started reading through this thread and burst out in tears.
The fifth post was mine: Oh Glebby, you are so MISSED! I'm heading down to Florida TODAY--call me on my celphone.
And then I remembered...he did call me! He did call me in Florida, because at that point we still spoke on the phone.
We chatted for about 20 minutes while I was sitting on a chaise at the pool. David Zippel and Christopher Sieber and their boyfriends were staying at my hotel--an "upscale" gay guesthouse--and Glebby was very interested in their comings and goings.
We chatted, as we usually did, about movies and music and dance and dancers and actors and singers and who we knew in common and who we had crushes on. I would flirt with him and he would tell me to stop--and I would try to stop, but I never really could, because, after all, who could ever stop being a little bit in love with Mark Goldweber?
To know Mark was, indeed, to love him.
To love him was to want to take care of him.
And to really love him was to know how to let him be.
All those years, I would say to him, "I wish I could see you dance again."
Now all I can think is "I wish I could see you again."

Why didn't I listen to my head and not read this thread at work? Luckily no one else is in the office at this time.
We were all so blessed to share this board wth such an amazing human being. Tonight when you look up at the sky and see the brightest star twinkling it is Mark smiling down on us. Our loss is heaven's gain.
#1490re: Greetings From Glebb
Posted: 12/12/11 at 8:10amThat star will not only be twinkling. It will be doing triple tours en l'air.

Posted: 12/13/11 at 12:32amIt's nice to catch up on this thread. Although I joined in '03, I didn't venture to the O/T Board for some reason. I remember my first interaction here with Mark as I knew he had danced with the Joffrey, but couldn't figure out why I couldn't recall someone with the name Glebb!!
#1494re: Greetings From Glebb
Posted: 12/13/11 at 12:36amOne of my favorite "virtual" memories with Mark was watching "Flower Drum Song" on TMC together. We both loved that movie. I think we might have been the only two people in the world who did!

Of course I did: "In an icebox, you'll find in a can / Some left-overs of Moo Goo Gai Pan!"
I can still do the choreography. (Well, sort of. I would need Glebby to help me with it.)
