One of mine is watching old cliffhanger serials
Try & get The Green Archer. It has 15 chapters & is great to watch the whole thing in 1 sitting or chapter by chapter as originally intended. It has a great performance by James Craven who literally chews the scenery with relish. He was described as The Human Wily Cayote on Speed. Every plot he hatches goes awry & his exaperations in each chapter are priceless.
I do not remember how I got hooked on them but they are really enjoyable. The Superman ones are good & seeing Batman & Robin change costumes in the back of a limo (no Batmobile) is priceless

Posted: 10/20/10 at 11:08pmI'm actually old enough to remember them being shown in movie theaters. Of course, they weren't new, but we saw one, every Saturday.

Madbrian
There are a ton of them out on DVD & most are dirt cheap. The Green Hornet is played by one guy & the voice is someone elses. Either the voice or the actor was Mike the Cop from Abbott & Costello & Kato was Keye Luke

Posted: 10/22/10 at 4:05pmWhen I was little, I do remember movie theaters having special children's matinees on the weekends for re-releases of live action Disney films or old Sinbad action movies, etc. They used to show episodes of Zorro before the feature film. And before the show started, I remember that GOD AWFUL "Sing...Sing a Song" being piped in while we were waiting. Even as a child, I hated that song!

I got into the serials as an offshoot of being a comic book geek. Pulps and serials were the next step! I used to have a million serials on VHS but thinned the collection down to the core stuff I really liked a few years back.
My favorite is one called 'Manhunt of Mystery Island.' Lots of action, a cool villain and the lovely Linda Stirling in perpetual distress. Ah, the old days ...

I have Manhunt but never watched it
The Green Archer is worth it as it Perils of Nyoka with Clayton (Lone Ranger) Moore & Manhunt In African Desert which plays like Raiders of The Lost Ark. I have about 45 on DVD'S
