ew. I can't see the whole topic because i put namo on ignore and the board has never looked so beautiful. i sugest everyone do the same.
to stick to the topic, I personally like the preppy/skater look... they wear preppy clothes, but worn messy, like un-tucked collar shirts and vans instead of flipflops. they also have cool hair.
I dress however I feel like. i like wearing capris, but baggy ones, like long shorts. I usually wear pink and grey Etnies and really cushy socks because they are soooo comfortable. I also wear alot of clothes from Old Navy because they're comfortable and affordable and they look really good. I like to buy clothes from this little juice bar in Hartford called "Alchemy" and the lady who runs it sells tops and pants and skirts and dresses for $10 each. I used to buy alot of clothes from Generations before they went out of buisness. I just like clothes that are soft and comfortable. I don't really have a preference for stores.
I like wearing shirts from places or people no one's ever heard of, like of local bands and stuff.

"Yeah Abba. All the filthy crap you spew out there on those boards. I for one, am equally shocked. :-P" - AnnaK

Posted: 5/31/05 at 5:21pmDo people still dress preppy? I thought that went out in the 80s! and WHEN is this horrible fad of wearing flip-flops in public going to end? I am sick and tired of seeing people's gnarly toes hanging over those gross little piece of plastic (which, by the way, are very bad for both the feet and the back - no arch support). I can't WAIT for it to become passe'.

redhot, I love when you get all Grandpa on us.
I have a pair of flip flops that have excellent arch support - they're not the plastic flat things...and they're cute besides! And don't worry, I never wear them without a fresh pedicure.

Posted: 5/31/05 at 5:36pmI've seen people wearing flip flops to dance clubs. DANCE CLUBS! So they can stand in one place and do that "new" dance, The Robot?

Posted: 5/31/05 at 5:45pmI have always dressed in a preppy way.

Posted: 5/31/05 at 5:46pmFlip flops other than at the beach are a big no-no. People here wear them to the theater! Yep.. pretty nice clothes, you know, nice jeans, nice button down, and FLIP-FRIGGIN'-FLOPS!

Posted: 5/31/05 at 5:49pmFOA, it was your use of the anachronistic word "beatnick" that made me call you grampaw. I understand that you're chronologically young, but are you really that obtuse?

Posted: 5/31/05 at 5:50pmDD, I know I'm hopelessly old-fashioned on this score, but if people are wearing jeans to the theater - no matter how "nice" -it's not too far down the slippery slope to flip-flops.

Posted: 5/31/05 at 5:52pmI, just like redhot, didn't realize preppy was back until a couple of months ago. That's so 1980's. I went to Macy's and they had Lacoste! Not even Izod, Lacoste. Not that there's anything wrong with that... I prefer seeing preppy than grungy any day.

Rath, I'm with you. However, I've come to accept jeans at the theater as long as they're nice, not grungy. This is Seattle, after all, where only the fanciest of restaurants (and it's prolly only a couple) have a dress code. Haven't crossed the line to accepting flip-flops yet.
*embarassed*
I did break one of my cardinal rules on Friday. Went to a small theater (in a mall, of all places) to see "...Penzance", and since it was so hot that day (90+) and the theater has a very poor HVAC system, I actually wore shorts. I know, I know, I should be shot. But I was NOT about to sit in that theater in long pants.

Not a fan of the flip flop either, but mostly due to the annoying sound that occurs whenever the wearer of said flip flops walks anywhere. Get three or four flip flop clad persons walking together, and the sound effect becomes an environmental nuisance.
