"One of the scientists sharing the Nobel Prize in medicine for discovering HIV said Saturday he believes there will be a therapeutic vaccine to treat the virus within five years.
Luc Montagnier, of France, told reporters in Sweden that he believed it was "a matter of 4 to 5 years" before a therapeutic vaccine to treat HIV infection is developed. He did not elaborate as to why he believed scientists were close."
What do you think?
I think, as with everything, that it won't happen until they can figure out a way to make more money curing it then they do treating it.
That's exciting news but there are other scary viruses are still out there with no cure like hep c.
IF he's saying this than I imagine that the Vaccine just needs to go through the normal loopholes, 5 years sounds right, before going public. This is thrilling news and made my night.
Whoa! I'm amazed this hasn't got more response!
Fingers crossed that this IS possible, it does happen, and that it isn't one of those vaccines that stops working after a generation...
What I'm afraid of is... if this does happen and come true, will people treat this as a get-out-of-jail-free card for barebacking?
will people treat this as a get-out-of-jail-free card for barebacking?
So what? All barebackers should be punished by God with HIV?
This is ridiculous. So what if one day comes a day when people can bareback without thinking about disease or "punishment"? Wouldn't that actually be, I don't know, a good thing? God, I can't stand it when people make that kind of comment, mostly because I feel that's exactly what people are saying to keep cures for HIV from being fully developed.
I hope this report is true and that there is no catch to it. We'll see in five years (or hopefully even less).
Calm down there. I never said barebacking should be punished, but you do realize there are other STDs besides HIV like herpes, hep C, HPV...
I agree that nowhere does that read HIV is a punishment for barebacking. There are huge risks for all kinds of STDs from unprotected sex, with HIV being the most serious. Sadly, I think the days of risk free barebacking are gone (if they ever really existed)
Hpv is scary. I hope the male hpv vaccine comes out soon.

To be perfectly clear, vaccines only prevent disease. They do not offer a cure (i.e., if you already have HIV, the vaccine will not make it go away). I do know what you mean, however.
This is great news but with the way the world is today, there is probably going to be a HUGE waiting list to get the shot and who knows how much they will charge for it!
Coz y'know, we have to make sure we make loads of money instead of saving lives!
Gay men should talk to their doctors about getting Gardasil shots.
I've already worked something out with my doctor and have had two of them just to be on the safe side.
