I'm always amazed at the number of actors on this site that cut down the musicals. True, they may not be up to your "standards" on Broadway, but they sure have brought a lot of people to the threatres on Broadway. If it weren't for the musicals, many of you would be doing a lot more waiting on tables, etc.

I'm so sorry that I don't settle for 2nd and 3rd best when I take a look at the quality of my artform.
Of course, I am happy that people are working. But, if audiences weren't so lazy, they might support great musicals instead of only fluff.

Well, I can name one great musical that had to close because audiences are lazy: CAROLINE, OR CHANGE.
There are some musicals that are great that are being supported. I think HAIRSPRAY and AVENUE Q are two such.
But, so many great musicals and plays (GEM OF THE OCEAN) have to close because people are too busy trying to get tickets for WICKED or one of the catalogue musicals--and those musicals can be fun, but it's like living on a junk food diet.
There are some musicals that are great that are being supported. I think HAIRSPRAY and AVENUE Q are two such.

Curtain, you keep forgetting that I'm not a legend on Broadway like yourself lol. I'm a fan in Chicago - I happen to like All Shook Up, Mamma Mia (well, most shows I saw anyhow), Movin Out, etc. because they are entertaining and I enjoy the music. I'm sure you disapprove of this reason for attending, but that's why I and many others attend the musicals.
Some of the best shows (non-musicals) that I've seen are Off Broadway - either in NYC or Chicago at the Bailiwick Theatre.

Well I definitely agree that Broadway is not the only place to find great theatre--and that most great theatre takes place Off and Off-Off and regionally.
