HUCKABEE WANTED TO ISOLATE AIDS PATIENTS — Page 4

I'm with Papa...in that Huck's got his party's nomination in the bag. Though his previous stance on tackling the spread of AIDS strikes many here as draconian and careless he only stated what countless Americans whisper amongst themselves (and to me) outside polite company.
On the other election front, a major surprise awaits Senator Hill-of-Bill in the near term. Hers is not the slam dunk that many on here envisioned. There's something about Huck and Obama's personalities and messages that ring true with a restless electorate. Oprah's endorsement of Obama empowers a chunk of Senator Hill-of-Bill's base to switch sides with no remorse.
Early on I told everyone willing to listen to me that in 08 the top card would not be Guiliani vs Clinton. Guiliani never had a chance and the nomination on the Clinton side was always hers to lose. The GOP spinmeisters are not stupid. They realize that Huck is the party’s salvation. They’ve been patiently waiting to see if he could gain traction on his own before throwing the party’s muscle behind him to take on the Party of the Godless, their characterization not mine.

You may be right about it being Huchabee vs. Obama, Javer.
But you may also simply be buying in a media-created hype that is more extreme than the actual polls.
A more sober view from today's Times:

G.O.P. Voters Are Uninspired by Candidates
By ADAM NAGOURNEY and MEGAN THEE
Three weeks before the Iowa caucuses, Republicans voters across the country appear uninspired by their field of presidential candidates, with a vast majority saying they have not made a final decision about who to support, according to the latest New York Times/CBS News Poll.
None of the Republican candidates is viewed favorably by even half of the Republican electorate, the poll found. In a sign of the fluidity of the race, one candidate who had barely registered in early polls several months ago, Mike Huckabee, the former governor of Arkansas, is now locked in a tight contest nationally with Rudolph W. Giuliani of New York and Mitt Romney of Massachusetts.
By contrast, Democrats are happier with their field and more settled in their decisions. For all the problems Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York appears to be having holding off her rivals Iowa and New Hampshire, she remains strong nationally, the poll found. Even after what her aides acknowledge has been two of the roughest months of her candidacy, she is viewed by Democrats as a far more electable candidate in the general election than either Senator Barack Obama of Illinois or John Edwards of North Carolina.
Not only did substantially more Democratic voters judge her to be ready for the presidency than those who believed Mr. Obama is prepared for the job, the poll found, but more Democrats said Mrs. Clinton could bring the country together than those who said Mr. Obama was someone who could unite different groups.
The Republican and Democratic nominating contest, which begin with the Iowa caucuses on Jan. 3, are being carried out at a time of anxiety and uncertainty. Americans think the economy is bad and getting worse. A vast majority think the country is heading in the wrong direction. More people cited the Iraq war as the most important issue facing the country than cited any other topic, and though 38 percent said the dispatch of extra troops to Iraq this year was working, a majority continued to say it was a mistake to enter the war.
The candidates are running against a backdrop of decidedly negative view of Washington. At 21 percent, the approval rating for this Congress, led by the Democrats, is at a new low, reflecting the defection of independent voters, a potentially worrisome development for Democrats going into next year’s Congressional elections. President Bush’s approval rating is at 28 percent, one point above the lowest of career.

Gotta side with Papa on this one too. I think Huckabee could really pull off the nomination.

wait, ryan white's mom lives in f*cking leesburg?!?!?! jaysus.
and pj, huck was a joke as little as a month ago (i know, i know, he's still a joke). in one month he's at a minimum doubled in practically every poll. give him another month and he's solidified that lead and overtaken the combover nationally. he'll demolish them in iowa and ride that wave into a close second at worst in n.h., to victory in michigan (where he already leads), he'll crush them in s.c. and win in nevada. he'll have a minor setback in florida where he'll probably be second or even third due to his cuba statements (although he's shown that he can gloss over past positions beter than anybody since bubba). going into super tuesday, he'll be sitting pretty and have gotten a f*ckuva lot more support behind him besides the procter and gamble boys. he takes at least 13 of 22 on the 5th. after that it's a walk to the convention.
the fact that you're posting almost exclusively about him says more than any times story about what ya really think about his chances, big fella.

I'm only worried about him because I think he appeals to the worst in Americans.
My only hope is that Rove and Cheney still dislike him more than I do. Once they embrace him, all hope is lost.

That's exactly how I feel.
And she's Hill-of-Bill, now? Eesh.

rove's out. done. his time at the top is complete. '06 took the bloom of the turd blossom.
the iran nie was the kiss off to cheney, too.
for better or worse, the last 13 months are condi and her husband's time.
the time to stop huck would have been three weeks ago, now he's got too much momentum. my only hope is that the combover goes 9/11 24/7 and is able to hammer him on foreign policy and national security.
the problem is though people like huck the person. it's not so much about policy as it is about persona. ya can't beat that with issues. the analogy i keep seeing mentioned is carter. coming off a time when it was 10 years of lbj, 7 years of nixon and 1 of ford, people wanted a change to something else. the carpet bager is business as usual and she's got the nomination locked up.
president huckabee.

The question before the electorate previously was "which candidate would you most like to have a beer with". It's now been replaced by "which candidate would you most like to preside over you child's baptism, daughter's wedding or spouse/parent's funeral".

Huckabee is turning into the Ross Perot of this campaign. Even if he got the nomination (and I am not convinced he has such a lock on the "anti-Washington-establishment" vote) he would run out of money or momentum long before the finish line. I hope he decides to run as an independent and split the vote, throwing the election to the Democrats.
