I love being single on V-Day/S.A.D.! There's no pressure to do anything for anyone else, and it's much easier to get laid because the other singles are desperate!

Happy Singles Awareness Day!

I know most of you think that February 14th is Valentine's Day, but I far prefer this unofficial substitute holiday.

Someone out there will probably point out that the acronym is SAD, and that this is depressing. Interesting, isn't it, that February 14 lies dead smack in the center of the 28-day (or, in this case, 29-day) month that I generally refer to as the month I get SAD (Seasonal Affected Disorder)...

But to the people who would bring up the aforementioned acronym as a way to discredit the holiday, I say BAH! After all, the Valentine's Day shares an acronym with Venereal Disease. Being in a relationship might get you Valentine's Day, but it could also get you a Venereal Disease, and you'll be Single and celebrating SAD soon enough.

And I'm sure someone will comment that this is a fake holiday, and therefore not worth celebrating. But what, I ask you, is Valentine's Day? It's a holiday named for two early Christian martyrs (both named Valentine... and I think at least one of them is a Saint in the Catholic Church), but the closest thing to a religious symbol that anyone associates with it is a Roman mythological figure (Cupid). If ever Hallmark were behind a holiday, this is certainly the one. So I see nothing wrong with celebrating an alternative made-up holiday.

If you allow yourself to feel pressure to do something for the person you love, you probably are better off alone. The OTHER person certainly is.

singtopher - Thanks! I update twice a week (which is what the semi-weekly in my signature means... some people misunderstand it as quasi-psudo-sorta-weekly instead of "twice weekly"). The SAD entry was pretty easy to write.

I'm enjoying being single today! I only had to get candy for my sister, and my school secretary/work study boss gave me a huge bag of chocolate!



so, yes. It's been a good day, and I'm going to say that it's because I'm single and happy.

I love Valentine's Day, and I feel like it is always so much more fun when I'm single.

I take the day to tell people in my life that I love them and why they're special to me.

I make treats for coworkers, friends, and students.

Then I come home and have a special night for myself. I've got a pizza, some soy ice cream, and a good movie. Then later, when all the couples are out having horribly slow services at unbearably over-crowded restaurants, I might head to the gym to check out the hot single men.

Whenever I'm in a relationship Valentine's Day turns into this disappointing day of forced romance.
