One whole theater in Minnesota, and what a shocker, it's the Lagoon.
Well, at least I'll be able to see it.

Unfortunately I work all weekend, and am off to see a friends' show on Sunday.
It'll probably have to be a weeknight next week sometime.
I just hope I can round up some people to join me, that's a really shady neighborhood, especially at night.
Yay! Squirrel Hill theatre in Pittsburgh on the 28th!
*happy* I know what I'm seeing this weekend.

I can't wait to see him in this role...
And later this year in "Running with Scissors" (a cameo as an IRS Agent) and then "Little Children" (married to Jennifer Connelly and having an affair with Kate Winslet.)
Dear Mister Wilson has been quite the busy guy!

I am going to an advance screening tomorrow night in Boston. It opens in three theatres in the Boston area this Friday.

I just got a google alert for the Buffalo News' comments on "Hard Candy". The local critic, Jeff Simon, will have his official review in Friday's entertainment supplement (The Gusto) but he names "Hard Candy" as now "The Most Unpleasant Movie I've Ever Sat"
In this article he shares his list of others that are on that list. I thought some of us might like to see what he has compared it against:

I just got in from seeing a screening of Hard Candy. I didn't have to answer any questions beacon1. I submitted an email as instructed in an ad in a local newspaper and was sent an email invitation back.
I thought it was a great movie. Very disturbing. Not gory at all as it is an intense psychological drama. The performances by Patrick Wilson and Ellen Page are so convincing that you don't need to see what's going on to feel the pain. Definetly not a mainstream movie. It's very thought provoking and when you leave the theater, you will continue to think about certain scenes and details of the movie that will possibly make you interpret the movie differently than when you were watching it. I don't want to say much more without giving anything away.
My only negative comment is regarding several people in the audience that thought they were watching a comedy and laughed throughout the entire movie. This was very annoying not only to me but the majority of the audience that understood that this is a well acted dramatic movie.

This is an INTENSE film. There is no resting at all once things get going. No place to take a mental break. It just keeps coming at you. After an hour and a half you feel exhausted mentally and physically.
Patrick and Ellen are amazing in this. It felt so real and personal that at times I felt embarrassed. Like I was an awful person, myself for just watching and not helping. A voyeur watching a real encounter who was just standing there in the room with them, witnessing everything but not making any moves to intervene.
Patrick's reactions at a certain point especially made me feel like I was witnessing a very personal, emotional display of horror and despair.
There are incredible moments where he lets you get a glimpse at the layers lying beneath Jeff's demeanor. A glance, a stare, the way he says the words, the pauses.
Ellen is an incredible actress. She really masters a full swing of emotions and behaviors. It's difficult to adequately describe just how many different facets Hayley has but Ellen handles them all superbly.
And, there are times when you have to hope that what you are seeing took only a few takes to satisfy the director. I can't imagine how "beat up" everyone had to feel by the end of the day.
It's hard to say you like this film because it is a very difficult film to sit and "enjoy." However, I did like it for what it was able to make me me feel and how well it was executed.
I want to see it again and, knowing how it plays out and ends...watch for "tells" and subtleties I missed because of the gut reactions I had.
This film leaves you with a "feeling" that is hard to describe.
It's not as horrific and graphic as say "A Clockwork Orange" which I saw parts of once--and can still recall vividly. And, it's more intense that "Silence of the Lambs", in my opinion. (I'd read the book before I saw the film and the
book is more intense than the film--but I liked it.) It's in its own special world, actually, so comparisons are difficult.
Not a popcorn munching thriller. It's being a fly on a wall watching as two very troubled people are caught in a terrible struggle during one very gut-wrenching afternoon. And it's amazing to watch it all happen.
Don't NOT go...but please understand, as Patrick said, it is a very rough film. 180 degrees from "Phantom of the Opera" and an entire universe away from "Barefoot in the Park."
I'm going to go again in a few days...(Patrick, if this doesn't get you at least an Independent Spirit Award nomination there is something seriously wrong with their judgement!)

Very nice review beacon1. It's been 4 days since I've seen it and I'm still thinking about it. I would like to see it again to look for the details I missed first time around.
Threadjack: I love love love him singing that song. It's so... bouncy.

Thanks for posting your comments, Sabrelady. It's nice to know others think that the performances are award-worthy.

I just reread this thread from the beginning.
Holy God.
Holy. Dear. God.
S'matter Namo? Don't got the cujones for the movie?
(evil laughter permiates the air....)

No no, it's not the movie, it's the thread. It gives me that same sinking feeling I had while watching the movie "Prick Up Your Ears" when the obsessive lover has covered every square inch of the walls of his room with press clippings.
And that did not work out well for playwright Joe Orton.

Another very interesting interview with David Slade, the director of "Hard Candy". Neat insights about the filming process.
