Showtune or non-showtune?
Anyway, of course any song beyond my vocal range
Well, I was trying to sing Jessica Simpson's "I Wanna Love You Forever" and I lost my voice and my breath, during the 1st half of the song. I mean pop or Broadway or anything that we can be familiar with.

West End Avenue because it has a kazillion time changes.
The first song that popped into my head is "Man of La Mancha"
"L'Air des Clochettes" (The Bell Song) from "Lakme"
The Mad Scene from Lucia di Lammermoor (just TRY "Il Dolce Suono"...I dare you.)
Mariah's "Emotions" (I sang it in a talent show in 8th grade. fun times.)
I would imagine "Defying Gravity" would be a hard one to pull off consistently...
And anything from West Side Story or Sweeney Todd, if you are metrically challenged and don't have a great sense of pitch.

LMFAO!! Damn, you were that gay even as a child!
My favorite song to perform for company in the living room when I was about 5 was the Trolley Song.
What do YOU think, honey?

Yea. You were pretty doomed.
Jailbird- It depends if you're an opera singer or not.
I do think however, that arias in general are much more challenging. "Follie, Follie.." From Traviata comes to mind.
More narrated than sung but very difficult:
Small House of Uncle Thomas
"My favorite song to perform for company in the living room when I was about 5 was the Trolley Song."
Jaily, why not "Under The Bamboo Tree"?
"soliloquoy" (sp) from Carousel is very difficult
"Brother"- bright lights, big city- deceptively hard
"Il Mondo Era Vuoto" from piazza. very hard.
"you walk with me" -full monty
"what is it about her" from Lippa's wild party
"I am what I am"- fun, but challenging
I can think of 2 from Company
Getting Married Today

pab, that reminds me of back when I was in high school, when our drama department put on a production of The King and I. Our Small House of Uncle Thomas scene was disasterous. Most of the chorus was unable to count out measures and beats. You can imagine the result.

If we're into Company: "Another hundred people" for it's nice rhythm.
Apart from that: try singing the Candide overture

"Putting It Together" seems so very easy to muck up, but then again, I am terrible when it comes to memorization.

Lovin' You by Minnie Riperton. I know Mariah Carey covered it years later, but it didn't have the same sweetness and feeling.
A Piece of Sky (from Yentl) by Barbra Streisand. I never get tired of hearing this--it's thrilling. Barbra's voice is as gorgeous and clear as it is powerful. And I don't even know how long she holds that final note, but it gives me the chills.

Another vote for West Side Story, and Candide
The choice would, obviously, depend on your range. I remember when my wife did THE FANTASTICKS, she was told that she was the only Louisa to ever sing "Round and Round", as written. Everyone found it too hard to sing. Even in the production notes it states to refer to the original cast album for alternate notes (Rita Gardner could not sing the original notes, either). This was many years ago, so someone else may have sung it as written, since. She thought it was a piece of cake. What's hard to sing for one voice, is easy for another.
