I love Ron in the books and while overall I don't like the movies/writing of the movies, I do still like Ron in the movie. I have never been one for Harry/Hermione, but you know there's going to be Ron/Hermione in the new book... there just has to be.
If Harry/Ginny finally happened, Ron/Hermione is not too far off.
Ron/Hermione is pretty much a guarantee. The moment he was holding her and they were crying sealed it. Hopefully though when the book starts they aren't a couple. I want to read what it is like for them to admit their feelings.
I don't think they'll be a couple when the book starts. The way they've been going, it'll take them awhile to fully admit their feelings.
Well a major plot thread in book six was Ron and Hermione finally coming to terms with how they feel about one another. Harry even has a line where he says he always knew this was going to happen. I think the bit where they are holding each other at the end means they are finally a couple. I wonder if Mrs Weasley has any inkling?
I never really understand people who fantasize about non-canonical pairings. I guess I always just take what the author writes as law instead of imagining who would make a better match.
Man, what would it have been like if Juliet had gotten with Mercutio instead?
Just found out that the final book got leaked to a site called bittorrent.com. Went to the site but it was actually leaked to one of bittorent's other sites. It was removed, but we poked around, and it's out there. We had to poke around but saw links to pages for the book on the site.
JKR has talked about Ron/Hermione stuff from the movies and mentioned how prophetic it is... like they know what's coming or something, even though she hasn't told them anything. That's why I'm expecting them as a couple in book 7.
I'm sorry, but why on earth would you want to see the book before its release...?! Spoilers are no fun and I hope people are smart enough not to post them on here until Friday...
Spoilers don't make the books better, they just *spoil* some of the fun... I love what JKR said on her site... I can't find the exact quote at the moment, but it's something about how "I want kids who have grown up wih the books" (like me) "to go on this last journey with them without knowing where they're going."
BTW, everything she writes, including her rant about skinny girls, is well written... which I find incredibly annoying and unfair.
I love how JKR writes! Everything she writes is also somehow important to the story.
A leak now? People can't wait 3-4 days? Like I said...WAY too seriously...
"I never really understand people who fantasize about non-canonical pairings. I guess I always just take what the author writes as law instead of imagining who would make a better match."
Because some people enjoy the characters, but don't really care for the direction they're headed. You don't always have to agree with the author's decisions. That's what is nice about having your own opinion. I always thought Harry and Hermione were a better match. It doesn't mean I'm in denial about what Rowling writes. It just means I have differing preferences. I don't know why so many people find that odd.
Ginny would be my second pick for Harry (Cho was one of the blandest characters Rowling created). I would have loved to see Ron and Luna paired up. Luna would have made Ron seem more interesting, at least. But to me, Hermione's personality overshadows Ron and a pairing of the two of them just diminishes his character further.
We've all been waiting for nine years, you can excuse us for starting to feel impatient!
I totally disagree with you. Ron finds Luna bewildering if a little funny, and Hermione and Ron bring out better aspects in one another (Hermione makes Ron be more thoughtful, and Ron helps Hermione lighten up a bit). They were made for each other. Luna and Harry would make good close friends since they have an affinity for each other but I think Ginny is the best one for Harry. They have fun together.
If this were a different sort of story Ron and Harry would just snog and get it over with.
I still don't understand. So basically you just make up your own story in your head as you read? It's not really a matter of agreeing with the author's decisions. She's the author. You can speculate and write alternative versions, but at the end of the day what JK Rowling says goes.
"I still don't understand. So basically you just make up your own story in your head as you read?"
No. I never said any such thing.
"It's not really a matter of agreeing with the author's decisions. She's the author."
That's exactly what it is. Anyone can disagree with an author's decision. Stephen King wrote an entire novel about exactly that called Misery. But in the case of that story, the fan literally forces the author to change his decision. I've never been so stupid or presumptuous as that.
"You can speculate and write alternative versions, but at the end of the day what JK Rowling says goes."
It's really not that hard. I read what she writes. Then I say, "Ok, but I would have preferred _______." I've never asked nor required her to change anything.
That's all there is to it. I don't deny or ignore what she writes. I don't really "speculate" or write alternative versions. It is totally a matter of having a different preference from the author. Rowling has written how she wants things to work out for the characters. I totally accept that. I'm just saying it may not be how I would have chosen. It doesn't matter in the end, but my opinion is totally valid. I really like all the choices Rowling has made with the exception of the Harry/Ron/Hermione couplings.
Haven't you ever loved a novel while reading it, but absolutely hated the ending? Same thing.
I would prefer to have Harry and Hermione together. That's all. It's pretty simple to think it, actually. Anyone can do it. Give it a try...
I'm thinking about it and I think Harry and Hermione would bore each other to death. Plus there's no sexual attraction there.
I think maybe since Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson are both a bit better looking than Rupert Grint, that is why some people want to pair them up. Or that it's more conventional for the hero and the heroine to hook up. Ron and Hermione have been a couple in my imagination for so long that it's hard to to get around that.
Yeah, sometimes I read novels and hate the ending, but I don't know, I don't really settle on an alternative ending in my mind. I guess I wish His Dark Materials had ended differently. I just think the ending is part of the author's overall vision. It's like changing the ending of Moby Dick to 'And they all lived happily ever after'.
