Has Gay Pride Jumped the Shark?

“Maybe in the 60’s, it was fun when you’re like, ‘F you! F you, I’m gay and you’re an asshole,’ you know?” Mr. Shapland said. “Then you fast-forward from 19-whenever—whenever the gay revolution was, I don’t know, I’m not a scholar—things go on and get kind of boring.”
i don't know, i'm not a scholar.

"Likewise, a man who wouldn’t give his name and who was at G Lounge said, 'The parade has given us the opportunity to assimilate into society, but when there are boys dancing around in Speedos and butterfly wings, how are you going to go into Goldman Sachs the next day and work?'"
I have to say the reason I don't go and never will is I don't really want to see a guy getting a rim job out in public. Weird, skanky **** like that is what keeps me away. I'm not really sure what the state of Chicago's Pride is right now. I just know I don't really want to proudly march down a street with a Steamworks on it.

Well on one hand-- I'm an old man now. I hate the heat, the crowds, and I just can't stand for the 4 hours it takes to "Do" the parade.
But on the other hand, some of those queens give me gas! That one you quoted was a hoot! All he missed was "All you old bitches got me my rights, so now I'm going SHOPPING!"
I love the parade. It's a wonderful time. I think everyone should go at least once-- it can be a life changing event.

JoeKv, I totally agree. I attended DC's parade a couple of weeks ago, and it was the largest turnout I've seen in the 7 years that I lived here. Then again, the parade is only about an hour long and takes place in the early evening.
Yes, the parade in NYC is hours long, but I still think it's important to make an appearance.

I was HEAVILY involved in both the LA and Orange County Pride festivals for YEARS. I remember OC's first festival and all of the protesters (not fun).
Now, I have too many other things to do. I guess I'm just getting old as well. Once you have seen booth after booth of crap you don't need being sold MOSTLY by straight folks who just do these things to make money, it's not as much fun.
Matter of fact, I was so uninformed this year that the Festival happened and I didn't even know.
No loss.

"...New York’s affluent gays and lesbians are staying away from this Sunday’s Gay Pride Parade in droves..."
I think that sentence from the article says it all.

I don't think it's jumped, but maybe that's just because I'll be there, cheering for all the guys from my hometown who aren't free to walk around their town holding hands with their boyfriends.

Gay Pride will be relevant until everyone is able to celebrate.
