AND?
>>I don't get the sexphobia...at all.
I said: It so hard to get any respect from the general population because these parades and most gay themed things are sexually charged.
It's not my sexphobia.

Can we at least agree that the balloons are nice??
Just for the record...the last photo is from the Pride Parade in Sao Paulo...seems that the Speedo thing is international.

"It so hard to get any respect from the general population because these parades and most gay themed things are sexually charged."
First off...I don't think the majority of the march IS sexually charge. I think there are many more organizations/groups that simply march with banners than there are floats with go go boys.
But..what's the problem with being sexually charged?? Gay sex is part of what makes us gay no? What's wrong with a positive expression of our sexuality? If it makes young gay people realize that our sexuality is something to celebrate instead of something to be ashamed of then it's a good thing. Instead of feeling like gay sex is something dirty that has to be had in some dark alley somewhere.
Plus...what's wrong with having some fun??
Now...I think the media chooses to cover only the floats with boys behaving badly and drag queens...but that's a different problem.

What flabbergasts me is that someone in a minority (sexual, racial or religious...and sometimes all three!) could possibly dare to suggest that those who choose to express themselves differently should in any way be censored or hidden.
What hypocrisy. What stupidity.

I just think the entire thing has lost it's focus. There is a decline in attendance of many pride parades around the country. The one in NYC is obviously a huge event and party.
It is my opinion and I think this parade does very little for the community. I don't think in this case we are going to have our cake and eat it too. Meaning we can't shove our glittery asses and condoms in peoples faces and ask for acceptance and change. It's not working. The parade will come and go.
We need a Martin Luther King. With issues like “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell,” on the political forefront and gay marriage, our time is now. People in this country are not getting our message.
This election in 2008 is going to be all about gay. Believe me the Republicans are already setting up the Democrats for failure.

You can shove your glittery ass in my face anytime you would like...
But it IS working. I work in a high school and I know of kids who go to Pride for the first time every year and come back amazed at how many people are there and they finally feel some sense of community. And, for the first time, feel proud that they are gay.
I'm sure there are young people (and not so young) all over the country that have that same experience...and not just in NYC

Well get their asses to the voting booths.
I can tell you this much. Hillary, Obama and Edwards do not have the balls to take one for the team. They all think gay mariage should be decided state-to-state. This is not equality.
I think it's great those kids are on their way.

YES!
Instead of Gays standing around saying "You don't represent ME", they need to use that power in the voting booths.
We could kick some serious ass, if we could just come together.

Just to clear up one thing, I don't live downtown. So, for me to go to Pride, that's a $5 train ticket, two $2 L rides and a little more than 2 hours of travel. I'm not going to go downtown for one hour. The dog is a partial real excuse, the ex is probably the real one. And you are lying through your teeth, any of you, if you say that you never skipped an event because you didn't want to see someone.
Especially because he invited me to a pride party and I declined saying that I don't go to pride. . . which would make me seem like I was a rude liar to him, rather than just that I changed my mind thanks to so many aggressive (sometimes bitchy) gays on a Broadway board. =)
Honestly, though, I don't understand why everything on here has to be an attack. You guys really need to learn to attack people's arguments, not the person. I know everyone gets all riled up now and then, but let's collectively (myself included) try to be more polite?
Anyone? Cheesey group hug? Public rim job of peace?
Anyway, if somehow things change, I go to pride and like it and come back a pride supporter. . . would you guys still give me ****? Rather than allowing me to humbly accept I was wrong? I doubt it, but I would hope so.

"And you are lying through your teeth, any of you, if you say that you never skipped an event because you didn't want to see someone."
Sorry no.
I've seen too may people do that, and I can't be bothered. I'm still friemds with anyone that I had dated or had sex with. I mean, if you were attracted to them in the first place, the ONLY reason you are mad now is because things didn't work out with the two of you.
Get over it and be a bigger man.
And I wasn't attacking you, I was just responding to your posts.

Do I really have to defend why I don't want to see an ex? Tried being friends after we mutually broke up when I went to college. Isn't working. Don't want to see him. Period.
I'm proud of you for being able to remain friends with all of your past relationships and hook-up's, though. It's just, it can't always work out that way for everyone.
