I have, however, frequently fetched up on judgmental guys with an overweening sense of entitlement.

Neither have I. But because I am not in ANY such gay scene, I can't say that they do/don't, make up a majority, or minority etc.. I was asking for personal experiences about this. If 'flaming queens' did make up the majority of the 'gay clubbing scene', then I would have reservations about participating in it to find a romantic partner because it's not quite what I'm looking for.

Oh yes.
Come on. There is no "overweening sense of entitlement" about wanting to have a romantic partner.
I'm sorry that I'm not coming across the way I want to..I'm not trying to claim 'flaming queens' are in anyway inferior to me (at least they can have fun!), or anything. It's just not what I'm into - at the moment.

How about "poofter." Is that better?!
And for someone recently out of the starting gate, I can't imagine how it would be a good idea to insult and alienate a certain "type" of gay man based on your own stereotypical prejudices. But then again, you haven't met ANY gay men, so you tell us, and this is all just theory and posturing on your part.
Seems the world might have inherited one more "bitter queen." Hey, but if that's your path, it's your path.

How about figuring out a way to discuss who you are and aren't attracted to without using degrading terms like "flaming queen" and tagging on a bunch of over-the-top, generic stereotypes?
Just a suggestion.

Just remember when you're out there meeting gay folks for the first time, it's probably not the best strategy to show them your prejudice by hurling insults right off the bat. You come off as shallow before you've met anybody.
Unless that's the impression you really want to make.

I did try to use a more 'objective' description of people I find attractive, that is:
"gay men that follow the socially accepted male gender roles."
I guess I can see it is quite shallow and prejudice of me to 'eliminate' them as a potential partner just because of the way they dress etc. though (I wonder if the reason I have self esteem issues about people judging me is because I judge others in ways I don't want people to judge myself).
But, I'll try to keep a more open mind. I guess from this thread, the biggest thing I've learned is that I need to actually get some real experiences for myself, before I start making conclusions about myself, others, the gay community etc..

I think some of the posters were more concerned about your dismissive behavior towards certain kind of gay men, and the use of loaded terms to describe them. You can partner up with whoever you want, but that's different from creating a hostile relationship with anyone who doesn't fit the "straight-acting" type.
I also find the term "straight-acting" deeply problematic when describing gay men. What does that mean? The way the gay community obsesses over the "straight acting" is clearly connected to the absurd ways the "straight acting" gay men feel superior in the gay community.
The last thing we need is more people to support that.
I'm with Phyllis and Besty on this one.

actually in my book, good gays love who they are and who they are not - a smart fella i know once said that - and know that there is not one mold into which all gays must fit, just as there is no one mold into which all people fit - although i did hear that most fit into reg - and thank heaven for that or this world would be a terribly boring place.
bad gays hate themselves, judge others for what they are and are not and make themselves and everyone around them miserable because they cannot or will not accept who thy are and who they are not and demand that everyone conform to their ideal of what a person should or shouldn't be.
fortunately bad gays can become good gays. just as fortunately, good gays very rarely become bad ones.

#1: Corduroy keeps me nice 'n' toasty this time of year.....along with my lumberjack boots and "Constant Craving" forever running in my head.
#2: Some gals just aren't as endowed as other gals. (Not that I'm speaking from experience, I mean my boobs are not only fantastic but they're magical. Although it's not like gay men would appreciate that little tidbit of info.....)
