Performing Tony Kushner = Death for actors.
We're doing rehersals until 5:30 EVERY school day, plus several set days on weekends. Problem isn't in the rehersal time (I could stand for a lot more rehersals, to tell you the truth!!!), but in the weight of the play. EVERY SINGLE part in it is so impossible to play at this level. We all have sudden emotional outbursts, bizarre switches in feeling, and tongue twisting dialogue (in traditional Kushner rhetoric of course). I spend half of my time practicing my lines and character and the other half thinking about them. Plus, my role is so dark and disturbing, it's like a disease to spend too much time in it. I'm turning into a dark, pale, disturbed recluse.
Luckily for most of the cast, the play splits up most of the parts so they have breaks. They get days off. Um... not me. I'm onstage for basically the whole show (which is fantastic! Don't get me wrong!), so I sort of am working for the entire rehersal.
PLUS, we've got AP test crap and stuff going on, SAT practice, summer program applications, extra homework, etc. I wish I could quit school and do theatre full time. Can't wait for college (AP classes = more theatre classes in college!). And I'm stage managering my friend's senior project and have to go prop hunting this weekend - and I have an advanced drama film to plan - and several plays to read before they're due to the library...
GAH! Naptime.
