I was skeptical as well until I saw the spot - Jesus, that's a lot of cameos - and read more about it. This could actually be huge. Eventually. I mean...
It's owned by Jay-Z and co-owned by roster of high profile artists like Kanye West, Jack White, Deadmau5, Daft Punk, Usher
It offers lossless streaming (which is huge to a certain segment of the population)
It - apparently - will more fairly compensate artists than existing services
Yeah, this will be a tough red ocean strategy with Spotify, Rdio, and - soon - Apple/Beats. It will take significant investment (and patience), but if they are able to offer enough exclusives and premieres, I could see them doing well.
I imagine Spotify's at least a bit nervous about maintaining their dominant position.

Why would anyone refer to TIDAL as Illuminati? And why did she pay the Illuminati with the worst of insults with her awful song? At least she's not trying to use the promotion of TIDAL as free press for her album or anything. If only the Illuminati had created TIDAL sooner! Then that leak might not have occurred and been the sole reason for album's drop in sales and Madonna's children could have a hot meal on the table! Poor Madonna cannot catch a break!

I subscribed to Beats as soon as it became available because Dr Dre and Trent Reznor were the architects and they too promised fairer payments to artists. Then they immediately sold it to Apple, who are saying they're going to do something new with it (please call it Apple Beets) but then are also trying to get major labels to lower their streaming prices for iTunes.
Also, Neil Young was doing a lossless service called Pono, I think.

Okay. It doesn't answer what I asked, but...thanks? Referring to her or them as Illuminati is as silly as the horrible song. I guess Madonna passes out Holy Water instead of Kool-Aid. Call me any name you like, I still won't like that terrible song. Have you heard it? The lyrics that try to say something, but really don't make much sense? The "rapping"? The horrible mixing and production? Try listening to it without the Magoggles. It's really REALLY bad. Even for her.

I would love to buy at a brick and mortar.
But all we have is one indie shop. It's really cool, and I love it on Record Store Day, but their back catalog is pretty thin.
I mostly shop on amazon, cdbaby, and the artist's website if available.

The only brick and mortar store near me is a used CD/LP shop, but I'm in there all the time as well. Well, there is a Barnes & Noble, but that doesn't really count.

I not only buy CDs, I buy vinyl too...even though I don't actually have a record player. I keep meaning to get one, but haven't got around to it. I only have less than ten, but I figure I'm at least supporting the struggling artists in the meantime.
