re: Hey Buds Below....

Spooky! Feodor Sverdlov AND ConvinceMe2 on the same thread!

Does anyone know what "scooter3843" in Feodor's signature refers to? I have a feeling it holds the key to the Mystery of Brendan Stryker.

re: Hey Buds Below....

Oh - thank you for reminding me of this! I have the DVD but I haven't watched it in a while. I was just 20 when that film came out and so all of those incredible outfits, and the whole business of talking to the plants and her flowered chintz bedroom and the sitar.... ALL of it was very 'in' to me. I loved it!

I loved all the music - but 'He isn't you' is gold.

I always love this film.
It's on one of the HBOs right now. And thank God,
TCM is on running on empty this morning.

re: Hey Buds Below....

I loved this film as a teenager and was so disappointed towards the end, when the pshychiatrist gets her to recount her other past lives, that we didn't get to see other further hilarious antics in the intervening time periods.

I haven't seen it for many years though I still listen to the score. He/She Isn't You is a stunning melody as is much else in the score.

Are you still curious about the Royal Pavilion Glebb? I've been there a couple of times. It was a small bay-windowed house that got blown out of all proportion, but if you look carefully you can still see the house beneath all the onion domes and minarets.

re: Hey Buds Below....

Still interested.
That is one of my favorite scenes in the film.
I love the use of the music and the direction of the extras and the costumes. Mr. Minnelli was the best.

re: Hey Buds Below....

I remember all the flowers growing miraculously fast when Barbra sang to them (and why not).

There was a stage production at London's Bridewell Theatre about ten years ago, which I didn't get to see - I can't imagine how they could have replicated that on stage.

Thank you for resurrecting this thread. (Not unlike Winnie being resurrected I guess?) The DVD is coming out of the cabinet right now!

I can vouch for AndyHardy DG.
He's my ex and he is in my top ten favorites ever!
PS - You can witness his gorgeous face and hot six pack if you see the Joffrey's 'BILLBOARDS' DVD.

Glebby - I know of Andy's connection to you - and I'm not saying all these posters are alike (or in any way connected, for that matter.) It's just a big blast from the past to see all these screen names! And SOME of them are, shall we say, still a bit 'murky'.

re: Hey Buds Below....

I was going to post a link to the clip of Barbara Harris and John Cullum doing a fifteen minute medley of songs from the show that was on www.bluegobo.com, but it's been pulled!!!!

I like the film version, too.

I wonder if anyone else out there realizes that Barbra, as Melinda, is doing an imitation of the fabulous British actress Joan Greenwood.

re: Hey Buds Below....

I'm afraid I had to google Joan Greenwood to find out who she was!

re: Hey Buds Below....

I you've ever seen the British 1940's movies "Kind Hearts and Coronets" with Alec Guiness or "The Importance of Being Ernest" with Michael Redgrave, she's in them. She's an attractive blonde with a voice like very dry sherry.

re: Hey Buds Below....

Joan Greenwood is in I believe "Tom Jones" and "At Bertram's Hotel," starring Joan Hickson, and I believe is Ms. Greenwood's final appearance. Think Maggie Smith with hauteur.

BTW, it is a SHAME that there are no bonuses on the ON A CLEAR DAY DVD. If Barbra would get off her lazy ass, she should record comments as well as to help find the missing footage from the cut scenes. And why not ask Jack Nicholson and Liza to offer DVD comments?

Can anyone explain "Tosy and Cosh" to me?
I figure she's under and she's singing about the kind of lover for which she longs. Is that correct?
