Initially, it referred to a woman who has a hot body but an ugly face -- everything but her face. Hence, butterface. But now it has become customary to call men with hot bods but so-so faces butterfaces, too.

Honestly I feel like if you took everything that was attractive about Jake Gyllenhaal and made it creepy and terrible, you'd have Paul Ryan.
