re: Hillary Clinton: Secretary of State?

In my head, I keep hearing this quote as if the unnamed former official in the Clinton administration were Marc St. James from UGLY BETTY:

Asked if Hillary Clinton would consider the secretary of state job, a former official in President Clinton’s administration said, "I think so. What would you rather do -- be senator or secretary of state?"

re: Hillary Clinton: Secretary of State?

ummmmmm, no! This has to go to Bill Richardson. He is the most qualified person in this country for Secretary of State.

Hillary can go be a Supreme Court Justice or whatever else she wants, just give Richardson the job he deserves.

This is all over the news this morning.

Of course, it's a chance to dig up the "heated conflict" between them again, during the campaign.

I don't think he'll pick her for secretary of state.

Why would Hillary want the job? If you do something right, the POTUS gets the credit. If you do something wrong, you get the blame. I think Hillary is too high profile for the job.
If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

She flew to Chicago, a rather signficant exertion of time and energy. I just hope it's something specific -- which reports suggest -- and not just angry Puma fodder.

re: Hillary Clinton: Secretary of State?

I am with Calvin, I would prefer her replacing Reid as Senate Majority Leader - I think he is worse the Pelosi, and far to passive and weak for my tastes.

Secretary of State - I would be OK with that, and her and Bill's popularity internationally would be great (though Obama is a bigger Rockstar now than either), but I am not sure that it is a good fit philosophically.

Enough with the PUMAs! They don't exist anymore and were never very significant anyway.

Talking about them becomes a smokescreen that makes it seem like there's an ongoing schism between Hillary supporters and Obama supporters, which there isn't.

Hillary and her supporters become Obama supporters months ago.

Let's banish PUMAs from the conversation.

I agree with Calvin about majority leader. I think Clark would be a good choice for sec. of defense and Richardson as Sec of State

re: Hillary Clinton: Secretary of State?

I'm just loving that, come January, we're going to have government that includes Obama, Biden, Clark, Richardson, Emanuel and Clinton.

I almost don't care who does what. I just want them to replace all the creeps we've had for 8 years.

It's just nice to know that an intelligent person will be in charge

re: Hillary Clinton: Secretary of State?

Hillary is more likely to become producer of the Bill O'Reilly show than senate majority leader. She's too junior, and would have to win a vote among her peers. Having said that, she'd be a good fit for SecState, and would fit into Obama's theme of a 'team of rivals' that he borrowed from Lincoln via a Doris Goodwin book. She certainly has the credentials for the job, and would benefit from the international work that her husband has been doing for the last few years.

MB - I know, there would have to be a deal made, which is doubtful. On my end, it is just wishful thinking. I just and not fond of Reid.

Same, YWIW. Just a pipe dream. I'm not a Reid fan, either, but I'm resigned to the fact that he will stay on as leader.

re: Hillary Clinton: Secretary of State?

I think Hillary's best chance and most fitting spot would be on the Supreme Court. I agree that Richardson is the best choice for Sec of State and I like Wes Clark for Sec of Defense, but I wouldn't put up a fight if he appointed Chuck Hagel as Sec of Defense either.

re: Hillary Clinton: Secretary of State?

If HRC did get SecState, would Gov Paterson appoint Bill Clinton to serve out her senate term?

re: Hillary Clinton: Secretary of State?

It's looking increasingly likely. And it does see like a shrewd, brilliant stroke. What a great way to follow in Lincoln's footsteps. (But what's next, per the meeting scheduled for Monday: John McCain as Secretary of the Desert?)

With the balance in the senate, McCain wouldn't leave the senate unless a deal was worked out for Napolitano to replace him with another Republican. Having said that, I could see Obama offering him Homeland Security.
