re: Hillary STILL hasn't gotten the message!

I think a jimmy carter is better than a George w bush.

I think us Hillary supporters have to keep that perspective and find any reason to vote for obama or at least against mccain. Hold your nose and vote if you have to.

3 Supreme Court justices could be at stake. That alone does it for me.

I've said it before but if you are a Hillary Clinton supporter who would vote for McCain before Obama, you need to seriously examine your priorities and the reasons why you vote.

Greek, if she doesn't get the nomination, she can run again in 4 years, assuming Obama doesn't win the general election. But if he does, then it's 8 years, as he'd most likely run for re-election in 2012. She doesn't have to be the VP this time around to try again. However, if Obama wins the nom and loses the election, it'd be pretty close to impossible (not to mention unthinkable) for him to attempt to run again in four years. Democrats don't normally renominate losers.

SM2 thank you ! Can I ask a question based on a third alternative please ? If Hillary runs for VP with Obama and Obama loses, is there a chance she can try again for President in 4 years or does the blame fall hard on her, too, so there's no chance ?

re: Hillary STILL hasn't gotten the message!

Greek: Not really. If you recall, Edwards ran as Kerry's VP in 2004 (after a failed attempt at clinching the Democratic nomination for president) yet he ran again for the presidential nomination this year, but alas he was unsuccessful this time around, too.

PJ: Yes, the Republicans have a history of doing that. I only know of one occasion that the Democrats tried this (can't for the life of me recall the candidate's name off-hand), but he lost both times.

The news here is suggesting one of those seats might be a better position for Hillary than VP.

I wasn't aware that Hillary had done any apellate legal work.

Perhaps I'm missing something here. How could Hillary's confirmation be any less problematic than Harriet Miers'?

Hillary indeed has name recognition but I don't recall her doing any apellate legal work. Then again with Democrat-controlled Senate, Hillary on the SCOTUS is not outside the realm of possibility. The party (and broadcasters) have to reward both Hillary and Obama for bringing out record number of primary voters (and ad revenues) this year.

I personally think the safest way for both Bill and Hillary to preserve their legacies if Obama gets the party nomination would be for her to bag the New York governorship and ride off into the sunset. The only other viable option is to snatch the DNC from the clutches of Howard Dean & Donna Brazile which I don't believe to be such a tall order for Team Clinton.

ok that's about the 5th time i've heard the ny governorship suggested and boy it just sounds honky dory, huh? but when does that election happen? 2012. depending on how things work out in the fall, i think she might just have other plans for that time period.

[CORRECTED]

Dude, it's only 4 yrs out!

Plus if either McCain or Obama doesn't stumble during the first term in office I can guaran-damn-ty their will be an exploratory Hill-for-Gov committee.

It seems that anyone with the last name Kennedy, Bush, Clinton or Dole is obsessed with power in the public sphere. I'll share another thought with you too.

If Kathleen Kennedy Townsend had been successful a few years back in becoming Gov of my great state of MD, Obama-Kennedy (or Kennedy-Obama) would have swept the floor with the competition this year. Think it over!

Breaks over. After months of watching my Party commit ritual Seppuku and what was annoyance of Howard Dean turn to pure unadulterated loathing -- it's clear I need to get back to my real job. Already have the resume updated and sent out to everyone of consequence.

Get over the Obama/Clinton notion right now. The Party has whiplash from 4 months Bipolar disorder trying to figure out if they want a black man or a white woman as the nominee...the Veep will be some safe, experienced, white man with a lot of political clout ala JFK/LBJ.

Obama needs to freshen up his stump speech --like it or not he has to address the racial divide front and center -- fortunately for him Hillary threw open the door to that today.

"I have a much broader base to build a winning coalition on," she said in an interview with USA TODAY. As evidence, Clinton cited an Associated Press article "that found how Sen. Obama's support among working, hard-working Americans, white Americans, is weakening again, and how whites in both states who had not completed college were supporting me."

"There's a pattern emerging here," she said.

If Obama keeps 85% of his focus on the 18-29 year olds and making sure they turn back out in November the Dems do in fact have a shot at the the White House. Independent voters are a natural constituency to McCain (not at all sure why, but they are nonetheless) they will stick with him.

Stop talking about age ranges and start focusing on the Electoral map.

Get this message, Hillary!

You can't win an election with 18-29-year-olds unless you get them in the Swing States.

PJ... why don't you just become a Republican? Maybe it would give you some peace. No? THEN PLEASE STOP CAMPAINING FOR THEM.

c'mon, pj, come over to our side for this year. you can go back in 2010 once the bammy-ites have been sufficiently chastised by an electoral massacre that they'll have handed the reigns back to the adults.

I won't become a Republican, Luscious. I'm a Democrat through and through. So are a lot of us former Hillary supporters.

And I could say the same to you: Why did you straddle the Democratic Party with yet another presidential candidate who can't win the Electoral College?

Luscious--just give me an Electoral College scenario that works and we'll all be happy.

Meanwhile, it looks like we'll lose the White House and win a filibuster-proof majority in the House and Senate.

See? I "know hope"!
