Hillary's Finest Moment at Tonight's Debate

miss... i agree with everyone both YOU and jerby are saying... i'm the only democrat in a heavy republican family, i have many republican friends, healthy arguments are good... and i would hate to have friends who i agree with all the time... but to accuse me of being the only name caller here is ridiculous.
i was simply saying that the tone in which jerby sometimes speaks to me with made me feel like he was personally attacking me...
saying things like "hush, the adults are talking" is not uncalled for, hypocritical, disrespectful and personal??? how about "if you're going to be a child i'll treat you like one..." thats not either?
i get that jerby's your friend and you want to come to his defense but lets be a little fair i think...
if we could all just move on like jerby suggested, i have no hard feelings myself...

And if you will note, I only made those two comments after your "Facebook anyone?" avoidance.
Before that, it was basic political wrassling. Which you continually felt was personal. None of it was. Though I do not think you stay consistent in your arguments.
Anyway, last night was a wash. Obama is going to be the nominee.
And, I'm spent!

Posted: 2/22/08 at 1:55pmand to clarify jerby, i was not bringing up facebook to avoid anything... the facebook thing just popped into my head at the moment and i wanted to ask you both for friend requests before it slipped my mind again... so i just posted about it quickly before we got back to the discussion Updated On: 2/22/08 at 01:55 PM

I never accused you of being the only name caller.

First of all, I'm an Obama supporter/volunteer.
I think they both did very well in the debate. Like the last one, there wasn't any clear "winner". They both had some great moments. And-with the exception of the xerox comments and the fact that she wouldn't stop talking about health care- I liked Clinton a little more than I used to.
Now, will I be happy if Clinton wins the nomination? Initially, I'll probably be a little upset. But she's hell of a lot better than McCain.

My point is in saying he is a wonderful PERSON is that I actually KNOW him PERSONALLY. That's how I KNOW he is wonderful. This argument shouldn't be PERSONAL because it's about politics, but you seem to have a problem separating PEOPLE from POLITICS. Otherwise, you wouldn't be accusing Hilary Clinton of "faking" her tears. Do you KNOW her personally?
The reason people give up on discussing things with you--even when they agree with you--is that you DO make everything "personal." For example, you interpret a comment I make about someone being "wonderful" as a statement about YOU, which it is not!

so let me get this straight... i can't call hillary's tears fake because i dont know her personally?
but you can accuse me of having a problem separating people from politics, and accuse me of making things personal... even tho you dont know me personally at all.
whats the difference?

Cubanpab, you seem to be playing the victim here.
I don't know JRB and I don't know you, but all I'm getting from your posts is "poor me" I'm being attacked for my views. Well, so what? If people don't agree with your views, they're probably going to let it be known. Political threads nearly always bring out the most strident comments and strongly worded statements. It's part of the game. There are no rules. No one is forcing you to play, so if you feel like engaging be prepared to be disagreed with, and perhaps attacked. If you don't want or are not prepared for that, then maybe you shouldn't post on a board with divergent opinion, and stick to the pro-Obama boards where everyone will agree with you.

Obama doesn't have a grip on the details of some issues, especially trade. Recently he has taken to associating NAFTA with jobs going to China. Also, during these national appearances he speaks of unifying the country, yet in local speeches (most recently the one in Houston on Tuesday) he's bragging about bashing Detroit to the automakers faces.
Obama's not a smart one.

Not sure of the connection there...
And Detroit was bashed WAY before we ever heard of Obama. Ever been there?

I’ve sat on my hands long enough. Mrs Clinton’s ballyhooed closing remarks were totally calculated. It was yet another display of one-upswo(man)ship which of course is part and parcel of politics.
When CNN’s Laura Sanchez suggested in the post-debate analysis that Hillary proposed “socializing” 12% of the nation’s economy, I instantly thought “game, set, match McCain”.
An excerpt of Clinton’s closing remarks follows. Note the emphasis on McCain and her in the context of war casualties. Somehow she miraculously had the wherewithal to point out that tidbit while completely overcome with emotion.
BROWN: Senator Clinton?
CLINTON: Well, I think everybody here knows I've lived through some crises and some challenging moments in my life. And...
(APPLAUSE)
And I am grateful for the support and the prayers of countless Americans.
But people often ask me, "How do you do it?" You know, "How do you keep going?" And I just have to shake my head in wonderment, because with all of the challenges that I've had, they are nothing compared to what I see happening in the lives of Americans every single day.
along with Senator McCain, as the only two elected officials, to speak at the opening at the Intrepid Center at Brooke Medical Center in San Antonio, a center designed to take care of and provide rehabilitation for our brave young men and women who have been injured in war.
…
...........................................................
That was a thinly-veiled attempt at gaining the inside lane on the commander in chief track replete with hyperactive tear ducts AGAIN. We’ve seen it before; sista…the acts gone stale. She owes John Edwards a VEEP nod just for co-opting the lion’s share of his positions during last night’s debate. It was painfully obvious that her handlers had hand-fed her Edwards’ applause lines from earlier in the hunt.
Fire away gang! I'll step in as CubanPab's surrogate.

Grew up one and a half miles north of the city, currently live about forty minutes away, and know the city, it's good and bad, very, very well. Anything else?

They were closing remarks, of course they were calculated. Do you think that Obama was speaking off the cuff? There isn't a word, or action in either of the two campaigns that isn't calculated for the best affect. Sometimes they score, sometimes they don't, and sometimes they bomb big time. I'm not sure what your point is? Are you're trying to say that Obama doesn't calculate every move of his campaign?
