Homeland Season 3

Anyone watch it? The season premiere seems to have been overshadowed in the media due to the series finale of "Breaking Bad" airing on the same night.
I think this season could be truly excellent. After the sophomore slump that many a drama series falls into, the third season seems to be a reboot. I've always enjoyed Damian Lewis' performance and character, but the show needs to move away from that. Why? If for no better reason than to keep Carrie and Brody far away from their soap opera-esque love affair. And with Lewis' character being gone, and apparently only appearing in five episodes this year, it is easy to see that Mandy Patinkin will most likely be the anchor of the series.
Also quite pleased to see Amy Morton and Tracy Letts in the cast this season.
Oh, and yes -- Claire Danes is still alarmingly excellent.

I heard Brody returns episode 3. I liked the premiere a lot -- I thought I'd miss Brody but it was fine without him for now. Mandy Patinkin is good enough to carry that weight.
I do wish Dana had finished the job, though...

Her character's really grown on me. In fact, other than Nick, she's the only Brody that I find interesting right now. It's odd that no one mentioned that the actor who played Mike has moved on to the broadcast TV series 'Blacklist'. There's a bit of void in the Brody household with no Mike around sniffing.. Grandma is already getting on my nerves.

I think Dana has a chance to be one of the most interesting characters on tv. I think the actress is really really good.
She really is a wild card. She's already acting out. How she will react to her dads situation will be fascinating. Dont forget she caught him prsying to Allah before he bles up the CIA AND was also on the phone with him when Carrie who she thought was crazy at the time told her he was going to kill the VP. She must feel somewhat responsible for those who died.

I feel like whatever the writers are positing on Carrie vs. Saul, I am on the opposite side of what they want. Saul did the right thing, even if it took Dar's influence and Dar's lack of moral fiber to get him there. Carrie was racked through the coals but honestly, her involvement/connection put her in a compromised position, objectively. But I was definitely supposed to feel with her there in that last scene. I did not. My worry is that even with Brody off-screen, the show sure likes to remind us that affair. Yeesh, did it all come down to Carrie having a ginger man fetish?
There are times when I thought this show was an interesting commentary on the intelligence community and then there are times I think it is exactly like that SNL spoof. The only upside was, I thought Dana was actually pretty well-depicted in her perspective. I think if there is somebody who benefits from lack of involvement in the Brody story, it is her.
I'll still be watching for F. Murray Abraham and Mandy Patinkin scenes. Also hope there are more people added to the intelligence community besides Dar and Quinn because the universe feels way too small and the bombing last year sure did not help that problem much.

That was my first thought the minute she scoped out up some random ginger.

Posted: 9/30/13 at 10:29pmI am actually finding the Brody family story lines tiresome. I don't really care about the daughter - she is SO whiney - and the wife was only happy when it looked like there was a political future for Brody. So enough already - they have separated and I see no reason to pursue the "adjustment to coming home" issue any further. The terrorism and homeland security issues are what make this interesting. The farther away they get with the human interest stuff, the more this just becomes a routine drama. I don't entirely understand why Carrie decided to go off her meds just at the point that she must know she needs them. Good to see Amy Morton and Tracy Letts in ep. 3.

Posted: 10/8/13 at 2:39pmI thought the first two episodes were sensational. They really washed clean the bad taste in my mouth from the missteps late in Season Two. Hopefully they can keep raising the stakes throughout the season. Danes' performances in the second episode is just incredible. Easily the best female performance on TV, period.

""You're wearing that thing on your head. It's one big f*ck you to people who would've been your coworkers."
Am I the only one completely unconvinced that Saul would have said this to Fera? It's completely inconsistent with Saul's values.

I think Saul just said that to get her attention and force her to prove herself and do the work she was hired to do. I don't think he actually meant it, but the ploy did work, since they got the information they needed.
I LOVED the first two episodes and am glad to be caught up to watch Season 3 as it airs.

Anyone watch this week?? It was the second episode this season (next to "Still Positive") that I thought was Season One-quality HOMELAND. This year's episodes have been pretty messy, but this episode gave me faith that Season Four could fully redeem the show. It's not that it's a horrible season by any means, but it's certainly not living up to the expectation it set for itself during the first season and the first half of season two.
The "twist" mid-season almost ruined the first few episodes for me, which I originally thought were very strong.
Anyway, I digress...I thought last night's episode was great.

Ditto
If Brody stays alive what does he do for Season 4?

Posted: 12/9/13 at 7:26pmI thought the two most recent episodes were the best of the season so far. I feel like there was a lot of "padding" this season that I didn't see quite so obviously in the past. There is the big question that is the spoiler of the season that has to be raised in the finale, no?

SPOILER! SPOILER! SPOILER! DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE SEASON FINALE!
******************************************************
So Brody is dead (we assume and it seems pretty certain -- at least he didn't show up at the end as a lumberjack in Saskatchewan).
Saul is put out to pasture (no surprise, Mandy Patinkin has a habit of leaving tv series, I'm actually surprised he lasted three seasons on Homeland).
Tracy Letts is the new CIA Director (he'll probably be less likely to put up with Carrie's shenanigans than Saul).
And Carrie is off to Istanbul without her baby. I wonder if she'll take her meds with her.
With the rest of the Brody family let go from series, I think we can expect some new and interesting characters in season 4.

SPOILERS
Well, I have been a fan of this series but it lost interest for me with the loss of both Brody and Saul. Hello, shark. Just my opinion, of course.

Originally Brody was to die in Season 1
Maybe Saul can join Patti in American Horror Story.

Loved the finale. It was really emotional and moving. Danes was brilliant, as usual.
I'm cautiously optimistic about Season Four. They've basically just opened their options up as wide as they could for changes in the next season, and I hope they take advantage of them. The possibilities are endless and I hope they can manage to give us a consistently strong fourth season.
