If you see nothing wrong with executives tripling their wages as their company circles their drain and their workers demand higher wages, I don't know what to say to you. "They can do what they want." is all you can say, as if its an iron clad retort. I'm surprised you didn't throw in, "It's a free country."
I am hardly advocating communism here. People can act like robber barons from 19th century melodramas or Wall Street shark douchebag boyfriends from 80s romantic comedies all they like. But they deserve the consequences that come to them.

Kad, I agree. I'm with you. That said it's a PRIVATE company and they're entitled to do whatever they want. If the factory workers don't like it, leave and find another job. And they did. Good luck to them.

They don't have to do anything, but their union had a right to do something about them filling their pockets with more money and it destroyed a company already on life support with the doctor's hand on the plug. This strike was probably more of a symbolic victory against the Hostess' execs incredibly horrible business practices at the sake of their employees and giving them the shift. They knew they were never going to get more money, but they did know what the strike would cause and in the end they won.

One point - given the debt load the company was carrying it's possible a bankruptcy judge could take action against any execs that looted the company.
Another point - if a competitor does pick up some of the product line improved Twinkies, Sno Balls, cupcakes, and fruit pies might still be in our future.

I haven't found a quoted rate for Hostess baker wages anywhere but the average wage for bakers in the US is under $13/hour - even with a union I doubt Hostess was paying $20+.

I think saw $680 a week for bakers, but I don't know how many hours a week they worked. But if it's a 35-hour week, that's $19 something.
