House Passes Hate Crimes Bill 237-180

A message from Andy Tobias brings this joyous news:

===

I just watched the hate crimes debate and votes on C-SPAN -- with virtually every Dem voting our way, virtually every R voting against.

And the speeches! The difference was unbelievably stark.

And now my friend of 41 years, Barney Frank, who was DEEPLY in the closet, as I was, when we first met, holds the gavel calling for the final vote. As I type, the Hate Crimes bill -- inclusive of gender identity -- is being passed: 237-180.

It is a great day to be an American.

Hug,

Andy

YAY!!!!
"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ~ Muhammad Ali

So Bush would use his third veto against this bill? My, he does put the "Compassionate" in Conservativism!

But we're so GOOD at shoving something down another's throat.

And also geeting something shoved down our own!

I'll be happy to stop shoving my lifestyle down other's throats when heterosexuals do the same.

"As it should be. But that doesn't give the homosexuals a free pass to go shoving their lifestyle down people's throats all because they want acceptance. I have more respect for those who are homosexual and who keep to themselves and don't get on their soapboxes and make trouble..."

Change the word homosexual to bible thumping Christians and I might agree with you Amanda.

"It's really sad to see that it makes you people happy to have an illness."

You seems pretty happy with your affliction of bigotry.

Homosexuality isn't a mental illness, dear. You've got antiquated information.

PS - The earth's not flat, either.

Charming, Mandy. No, really, you are such a beacon of pure Christian love that I'm inspired. You should be so proud of yourself. Jesus loves those who hate others.

Amanda is not a real person.

She is simply the latest sock puppet dreamed up by a 2nd-rate playwright creating a 3rd-rate character with 4th-rate dialogue.

Amanda it is truly Heterosexuals who "Shove it down people's throats" (NICE analogy by the way!) Look at the engagement page in your local paper, go to a wedding, check out the high school Prom, all chances for the straights to brag about who they're boinking.

I know. I'm sorry, PJ. It's so tempting. I will abide by what you say because of my immense love for Gene.

This truly is wonderful news, though! Maybe one day we can get rid of the hatred inside people as well as the hatred they inflict on other people. But the House can't help with that one.

Sounds like really wonderful news if it doesn't get vetoed. In the meantime please be mindful of the rules when coming into contact with animals.

Awesome--what's the rationale for voting against the bill?

"The White House also noted that the bill would leave out other classes such as the elderly, members of the military or police officers."

Maybe I'm out of the loop, but how many hate crimes against senior citizens have we had? And I believe it's already a federal offense to attack a police officer or military person.

That's the specious reasoning they use because they don't want to say what they believe, unlike Helga, She-Wolf of the SS. They think, against all medical and psychological evidence, that hoomsexuality is an illness, probably caused by a troll living in the stomach.

This will make the Hate Crime Vigil that I'm attending this evening all the more poignant. Here's hoping that Bush actually does something right for once.

Well the bottom line is that the Republicans can't stand homos. The party line is that this bill violates first amendment protections (Uh-huh), is uneccessary since these acts are already crimes (yep), and it's just not needed (I guess cause there aren't any hate crimes?).

Aw, I miss her already.

And, Joe, how can it possibly violate the first amendment? My head explodes with the absurdity of that claim.

I'm just waiting for people to argue that "It's a free country."
