If they're the least bit sensitive, they know it already. Perhaps its that non-stop medley of show tunes playing on your music system that gave you away.

i didn't come out until i was 40. it was very hard for me. i finally wrote letters to those important people that i needed to come out to first. it was a good technique for me because i was better able to express everything i wanted to say in writing.

Here's an excellent book I have recommended several times on this board. It covers all the bases, with especially good advice on how to come out safely around homophobic family members or friends.

No, but I have had "girl friends". I never really was all that crazy about them meaning that I never kissed her or anything. We just talked. She got really pissed at me when I ended the relationship; that was when I found out.
Maybe my parents have figured it out by now.

my mom and dad kind of figured it out about me, and they were just waiting for me to say something about it... while I was waiting for them to ask me.
I think you should just sit down with your parents/siblings/whoever you want to tell (either all at once or one-on-one) and just tell them. You'll feel alot better after you do. Even if they already know, you will feel better after you tell them.

I've always found that 'Guess who's a little light in the loafers" works very well.

Seriously, at 19 I wrote my parents 1 20 page letter from college telling them.

I do think sitting them down and saying 'I'm gay" would have been easier on everyone.

My best friend (female) sat me down and said. "Let's go over the bases. You're 23. You've never brought a girl home. You listen to nothing but showtunes. Your favorite television show is SATC. Your drink of choice is a cosmopolitan. You've seen 'Hairspray' 4 times. Your best friend is a hottie like me and you've never made a play for me despite your mother's suggestions. Your parents are both social workers. I think they have a clue."

Same girl....not too long ago.....we're at the movies. I offer her popcorn. She says no with a dirty look. I ask why. She looks down at herself and says, "Because nothing tastes as good as looking like this."

The girl I'm talking about says to me, "Are you in love with this?" (Pointing at herself) When I say no she says, "Why the f*ck not, I'm sexy!" (This was happening at my college, she was one of my friends) So I tell her that I'm already booked (as a joke) and she slaps me and she asks who my girl is. When I tell her that I was joking she pulls me over and kisses me and then walks away. It's kind of awkward and all the guys (who are definetely in love with her) look at me like they're going to kill me. She just recently died of drug overdose; she was on Harowin...

Tell them you post on a Broadway message board, they'll understand. Sorry if that's making light of a serious subject. I'm straight so I never faced this sort of emotional struggle. Just speak from your heart and trust them.
